This episode is a *great* follow-on to the absolutely exquisite pilot. This episode has several scenes that absolutely make me laugh out loud! And we get introduced to Elaine Besbris, Huey and Gardino, Beau Starr as Welsh. All so awesome ( Read more... )

I love this epsiode. For an early one there's a fair bit of good old slashy suntext in it.

I think Welsh is hard on Ray becuase he knows that deep down Ray Vecchio is a good cop and this is his chance to orove it. I suspect Welsh already recognises Fraser isa good influence on Ray. He never had any intention if tlaking Ray's sheild away (I think he knows Willie is not entirely truthful when he says Ray told him to go to the station if ever he was in trouble) it was just a way of getting Ray to reach his potential and it works with Fraser's help, Ray manages to solve the case.

I love so many moments between Fraser and Ray iin this form Ray saying you don't want tolive in this neighbourhood to him just handing his wallet over. I mean how many people would do that for a guy they met not long ago. And Fraser's saying Ray was his best friend awwww. Then there's their oiubletalk in the Riv, wonderful.

There's so much in this that makes it one of my favourite early episodes.

Oh, gosh yes!! Does it wind out getting better with these two, because just in this episode and the pilot they've got more slashy subtext than some pairings I read about.

Huh...so you're seeing all the stuff with Welsh really coming down on Ray throughout this episode as a way of pushing him to improve.

That's an interesting thought. I'm not sure I agree with it, though it's possible I will as I see more of him. I think I don't have enough data points yet.

Wonderful stuff, all of it!

This one is definitely a delight!

Yeah, it just keeps going and going and going...I can't wait until you see more of it. *is so happy to have a Vecchio slasher*

No promises...

My problem is that Vecchio *leaves* and if I'm invested in their happily ever after that's just going to kill me. (And I won't be able to have an open mind to Kowalski, who really is quite a cool character as well.)

But I can definitely see the subtext like woah!!

There's a bit of a dip in the next episode but it soon picks up again. I'm currently making subtext lists for each S1 & S2 episode and there is a lot more than expected in some episodes.

Yeah I think Welsh recognises there's a change coming, mostly due to the Mountie and I think Ray has the opportunity to really make it work.

Wonderful stuff, all of it!

Yep.

This one is definitely a delight!
