I’ve been pondering many things lately concerning my future.

I’m more than ready to go back to classes. I’m not sure completely what I want to study. My whole life my main interest has been in making things. It’s what I do with most of my spare time when I feel the inspiration. So I’d like to look into prop and costume design for theatre. I’ve thought about taking some finance-related classes to help me manage my money better, possibly make some wise investments, and to prepare hopefully to run my own business some day. I would also like to take music and dance lessons again.

Now since I’m right down the street from Kent State University, it makes sense to go there. I still need more information to see what my options are. They do have a costume design program, however you need a portfolio of past designs and theatre experience, of which I have none. They probably have some classes there to help you prep for it, but it would be easier to do a combination of community theatre and community college classes. The closest community college around here is Tri-C, but that’s Cleveland area. I’m not driving an hour for college. I know there are other smaller institutes of adult education around. I’d have to see what my options are there, though I know most 18-month programs will be medical or law based. I also want to talk with some of my contacts about theatre programs and what things I should look for and what I should avoid. Probably should talk to the artists too, since there will be some element of drawing for this and I can’t really go beyond stick figures. Whereever I go, it’ll be easier to get financial aid now that I’m old enough that my parents’ income isn’t taken into consideration.

I’m also feeling strange being away from home lately. I don’t miss Elyria. I’ll never move back to Elyria, nor will I ever live with my parents again. But I’ve missed my sister lately (who I trust way more than my parents) and even my little brother, not to mention more than one special person out that way. A few times I’ve considered moving possibly to Amherst or Avon so I’d still be in Lorain County and could still go to that community college, but I wouldn’t be in Elyria. Westlake is really nice too, but that’s too expensive for me. I’m not sure what the job market is out there though. I know Elyria and Lorain are dead end. There are Drug Marts in that area, but they may not have openings for pharmacy techs.

I like Kent, though. It’s a nice area. I don’t want to leave just yet (lease isn’t up until April anyway so I’m not going anywhere for a while.) A lot of things are in close proximity, and there’s an excellent bus system in place, which I could ride for free as a student.

I suppose I still don’t know totally what I want, but I’m not getting any younger here, nor is my credit card debt getting any smaller.
