I just put down my copy of When you are Engulfed in Flames by the oh-so-popular David Sedaris.  My obsession with this awkward gay man started when some of my friends in Pennsylvania had snagged an audio of his reading in Carnegie Hall.  I had heard of the name before, obviously in one of my short story seminars in college or in passing with ( Read more... )

Hey, I wasn't comparing Sedaris to either Chekov or Joyce---that would be not merely pretentious, but preposterous. But really--what exactly about that review of mine was pretentious? Thanks, though, for the shout out. Even a negative reader is better than none. Just ask David Sedaris....Nancy Dalva ps did you ever take an English class at Dickenson with Prof. Wendy Moffat?

I didn't expect you to read this, of course. I know you didn't compare him to Chekov or Joyce- the Times did. Sorry if I offended you at all. I do read your stuff quite a lot and appreciate that you'd take the time to comment on my livejournal for christ-sake. Anyway...I did go to Dickinson. And I did take classes with Wendy Moffat. In fact, I wrote my thesis and took my senior seminar with her. I love the lady half to death. Why do you ask?
