those teenage hopes who have tears in their eyes

i was listening to "man and wife, the former" by the desaparacidos yesterday. it set me on this train of thought (this happened subconsciously, by the way. i wasn't aware that the song prompted my long-lasting inner monologue until about 5 minutes ago).

mostly, it was about the relationships women have with money.  there are a lot of stereotypes about gold-digging-women and what not. i myself have witnessed the, "i just need to marry a rich man," statement uttered many times. and yes, i've actually said it. when i say it, however, i am joking in relation to my current monetary situation. i don't actually mean it.

women don't want to date people who cannot support themselves. this is the bottom line. why? well, personally, i can just barely afford to support myself and the thought of supporting someone else is just out of the question. i think other women make this "rule" as a means of maintaining their autonomy from their husband/boyfriend/girlfirend/wife/whatever. money makes things too complicated.

so, will most women date a poor guy? yes. as long as the "poor guy" can pay his own bills.

this is a weird thing to be thinking about since i am single.
blame it on the indie music.

on another note. marc is now in germany. i miss him. kirsten misses him. his mommy misses him. WE ALL MISS HIM!
kir, laura and i were thinking about going over to visit. apparently it's only about 200 round trip in the winter...cold cold cold.

i will be in carlisle on feb. 2nd.
maybe philly on the 15th.
i'm trying to find a way to take more time off in march to visit ppl.

this is my up-to-date travel itinerary, just in case ya'll (yes, i said "ya'll") wanted to know.
