i picked up Starship Troopers at the library yesterday, and read it, and well, i have some issues. not with the book, but with the fantastic film that was made from it. now, not all of you have seen this cinematic masterpiece, so you won't clearly understand what i'm discussing, but those of you all who love this movie as much as i do will totally get it.
now, first off, i won't ruin the movie for those of you haven't yet partaken in its glory, so, to use the contemporary phrase, no spoilerz, is appropriate here. however, the book was so not like the movie. it had the same characters, johnnie rico, carmen ibanez, even carl was there(good old doogie howser). he was in the Roughnecks, and he goes to such locales as Klendathu and Planet P, but really, the book is not all action packed like the movie. the movie is more of a social commentary/political treatise. robert heinlein clearly hated our government and all governments and everything about the way we did things, so he wrote this book. plus, while johnnie's teacher from high school is a retired M.I. officer, he ends up not being the same guy as the leader of his new company. alright, so, of course they couldn't make the movie just like the book, or else it wouldn't have been as much of a smash hit in the box office as it was, but i just wanted to throw in my 18 cents there.
i would also like to point out that i've read a shit ton of books since i've been in seattle.
