Kim Ryeowook loved cooking. More than anything in the world, he loved to cook. Kimbap, japchae, cakes and pastries; you name it, and he’d make it. And that food was good food. Made to perfection, the flavours and spices blended in your mouth in perfect harmony, and would always have you going back for more. And because he was Kim Ryeowook, he never made the food for himself, oh no. He liked to cook for others; his parents, his friends, and especially his Super Junior bandmates. No matter how tired he was, he’d be up and about the kitchen at a single request. You’d better eat up all his food too, or you’re never getting food from Ryeowook again.

Henry Lau loved eating. More than anything in the world, he loved to eat. Chicken, French fries, pizza and ice cream; you name it, and he’d eat it. As long as someone else did the cooking, of course. If it was food and it was there, it will eventually end up in Henry’s stomach. There was a reason his nickname was Mochi Cheeks, after all. And because he was Henry Lau, he never cooked, oh no. If you valued your eyebrows and/or your life, you wouldn’t let him anywhere within a hundred feet of your stove. Come to think about it, make that your oven and microwave and blender too.

So naturally, when Henry was added to SJM and the two met, it was only to both of their advantages. Henry was taller, built from all his years dancing but still maintaining those baby cheeks. Ryeowook, on the other hand, was petite and cute with fluffy brown hair that hung loosely over his large chestnut eyes. (Not that Henry noticed that…no, not at all.)

“Ugh,” Henry groaned one day. It was take-out day again at the Suju dorm, and of course the food was the same boring stuff, much like every other week. His eyes swept over the day’s selections. “Kimchi fried rice…could you guys get any more creative?” he muttered, rolling his eyes sarcastically. Just then, Ryeowook emerged from the kitchen, carrying a large platter filled with plates of bulgogi, galbi, samgyeopsal - Henry swore he had never seen so much meat in his life.

Drooling, his jaw practically fell to the floor. “Ryeowookie-hyung!” he exclaimed, eyes glowing and drool coming down just at the sight of it. “This smells wonderful!” Since when was Kim Ryeowook, the golden voice of Super Junior, such a good cook?

Ryeowook beamed. “Dig in everyone! I saw that our takeout menu was getting rather repetitive, so I thought I would make something better! Enjoy!” Henry, not needing to be asked twice, immediately wolfed down as much as he could, completely disregarding table manners. The other members were too hungry to care anyways, and the kimchi fried rice soon lay cold and long forgotten.

“Hyung, I’m hungry,” Henry pouted one day, puffing out his cheeks while looking at Ryeowook. “Will you cook me something?”

“Aww, how cute,” Ryeowook cooed, pinching Henry’s squishy cheeks. “Of course! What would you like?”

From then on, that seemed to be the way things became. Henry would go over to the Super Junior dorm every time he and Zhoumi were staying in Korea, and he always looked forward to it because Ryeowook would prepare a luscious meal to welcome them. Ryeowook was thrilled at Henry’s enthusiasm every time he cooked, and eagerly watched as his food was gobbled down. Henry was ecstatic at the fact that he was the “special little maknae” and had everything in his favour. Undeniably, Ryeowook made the best food he had ever eaten since he arrived in Korea, including all of his favourites.

While Ryeowook was busy in the kitchen, Henry would assist by setting out the table, placing the 15 sets of tableware (here Henry groaned; that was a lot of stuff to wash) out at their respective spots.

After dinner, Henry helped clear the dishes and put them in the sink to wash together with Jongwoon. Well, they tried. Jongwoon had such tiny hands and the porcelain bowls would always slip from his tiny fingers, shattering on the floor so Ryeowook usually ended up kicking him out of the kitchen and Henry would have to do the rest. Again.

It was after dinner one night, and all the members were kind of just lazing around since it was a night free of activities. Eunhyuk and Donghae were battling for the remote control, Kyuhyun was trying to teach a frustrated Sungmin how to play Starcraft, Leeteuk and Kangin were cuddling (making out?) on the couch, and some others were taking a nap.

All was well, and Ryeowook chirped, “Henli-ah, I’m in a good mood! Let’s make dessert for everyone! If you help stir, I’ll even let you lick the bowl…” He smirked playfully and winked, and it was all Henry could do to not melt right then and there; he was so weak in the knees.

Henry may be beyond terrible at cooking but for Ryeowook, he would do anything to help out, if improving wasn’t an option. And cooking with him was fun, he decided.

When everything was done and the soufflés were in the oven, Henry licked the mixing spoon gratefully, and couldn’t help but blurt out, “Thanks for doing so much for me, hyung,” he said.
The corners of Ryeowook’s eyes crinkled a little as he smiled. “Anytime, Henli!” Just ask if you need anything else, okay?”

Henry nodded happily, and pouted slightly. “But - if you had to pick, would it be me or cooking? Because you know, I really love eating everything you make so I wouldn’t want you to stop or anything, just -

Ryeowook shushed him by clamping a hand over Henry’s mouth. “You, of course! You’re my precious mochi baby!”

“R-really?”

Ryeowook nodded, tiptoeing so he could place a small kiss on Henry’s soft cheek. Henry blushed and Ryeowook giggled. “Don’t worry, Henli. I’ll always love cooking. But I think I love you more.”
