So I'm watching a show telling stories of lottery winners who either had tragic things happen to them after winning or were just plain stupid with their money. I guess I've always figured I'm too frugal and have way too much common sense to do stupid things like that.
If you won a big lottery, what would you do with it?
Me? I'd immediately do the following:
- Get an unlisted phone number.
- Make sure the check is in the bank and the funds are available.
- Call my mother and all my friends.
- Call my investment banker.
- Pay off all outstanding debts.
- Hire a full-service lawn service rather than just a mow & trim one (that includes getting rid of the bloody snow on the sidewalks and driveway--yes, it snowed *again* today).
- Look into completely renovating my kitchen (both because I want it and because it would add significant value to the house).
- Buy a new vehicle.
- Probably take $5K to $10K for a self-indulgent spending spree.
- Get house maintenance things done that I need to hire done.
- Try to think of something *really* nice I could do for my mother.
What I wouldn't do immediately:
- Quit my job.
- Pay off my mortgage (because I'm still paying off more interest than principal so it's still tax deductible).
- Go crazy and start buying things like mansions and airplanes and such.
What I might do eventually:
- Quit my job.
- Travel.
- Buy a 'vacation' home somewhere on a body of water.
- Hire a maid service (possibly upgraded to "immediate")
- Buy a boytoy (okay, so this last one, not really :::snerking::: unless he was John Sheppard come to life)
So what would you do? Because I'm sure I've forgotten something that you'll remind me of, like say, throwing a convention for a specific circle of us and having all our favorite actors there... and keeping the SGA actors under contract when Sci Fi goes stupid and cancels SGAand *we* make SGA the fanon way, which, you know, is kinda scary. ;)
