Excited Fleetwind

Dec 10, 2007 22:36

Fleetwind twisted out of the way of the energy blast, and still he felt the heat boil away paint and raise the temperature of the metal beneath to painful levels. As he twisted, he scanned the battlefield, searching for an escape route. There were plenty, he saw, but Rattletail was watching. A premature retreat would get reported, and Commander Lacewing was in a foul mood over defeats of late - he’s liable to shoot the next person caught fleeing the battlefield early.

Nothing for it, then. Fleetwind would have to stay and battle the Autobots, because they were less dangerous than the watching Decepticons. He transformed into tetrajet mode and dived, aiming himself for a ground-bound Autobot (and beneath another volley of blaster-fire). He was just about to end the dirt-kisser’s life with a rocket when a missile - a self-guided one, by the looks of things - being sent his way reminded him that even grubbers have teeth.

The Seeker hissed, returned to robot mode, and… froze. His fuel-pumped seized, his intakes cut off, and he hovered there for microseconds that were small eternities.

In just enough time to avoid proximity detonation, Fleetwind flipped himself over midair, turning what would be a summersault had he been initially standing on the ground. His thruster foot came ‘down,’ knocking the missile firmly on its base, just far enough away from the warhead to keep it from exploding, and sent it spiraling out of control. He then went limp as the missile finally went off, moving only to guide his now-sideways flight through the air, not resist or end it.

Once he could safely slow himself he did so, crying out not with terror, but with elation for having survived and overcome such a near death experience. Though he would never admit it to anyone, even Fleetwind took joy in battle. What weapon did not love being wielded? The Seeker grinned a savage smile, his hands swung up to draw his daggers, and he dived once more for the Autobot.
