So my dad and I just finished watching the remake of True Grit. My dad is a huge John Wayne fan and really liked the original. This version was good, but it certainly had its differences. I personally really liked the girl more in this version than in the original. I found her extremely annoying and hoped that she would die during the original. In this version, I found her much more likeable and hoped that she kicked major butt. One of the major differences between the original and remake is that Maddie narrates the story decades after it happened. My dad was not a fan of the ending for the remake. He preferred the original where John Wayne comes back a few months later to check up on Maddie and then rides off into the sunset. There was also a slight twist to how Mr. LeBeef and Maddie end up at the end of the movie.
I was thrilled that they kept some of the iconic lines in the movie, and it was rather interesting seeing the similarities between the two Rooster Cogburns and Ned Peppers. It's definitely worth a watch. If you are a die hard fan of the original you may not like the ending, but give it a try. I give it a 3 out of 5. It was good, but I'm fine with having seen it once. Definitely not a waste of money, but not really interested in seeing it again.
Happy watching!
