Shikabane Hime Aka - Spoiler Impressions
Alright, yet another show that is interesting enough for me to download xD Though my level of addiction on this is not as high as Kuroshitsuji or Casshern SINS, I also find this really good ^_^
You brought to us another fantastic action-packed shounen show, Gainax! ^_^ I don't think it'll be as epic as Gurren-Lagann, but its first episode had been awesome ^_^
No OP them yet. There was an ED theme though . . .recycled scenes of the episode -_- but the music's nice *_* It's nice to be an OP. Maybe they're doing what Rental Magica did (the music of the ed them of the first episode is actually the real op theme and the ed theme is somethign different).
I'll start with the leading female:
Some may think that her character design is nothing new (because of the pretty girl + sailor uniform combo). But I find something unique about her: the eyebrows! They're . . . kinda thick o_O I dunno, but I don't find that common in leading females, even in shounen shows xD And to existing female characters with thick eyebrows, they usually look weird or kinda manly . . . but Makina's look good on her. It made her seem tougher and badass, but still female. Not girly, just female. I give applause to this interesting and uncommon character design xD
It may not seem like it to some, but to me it's different. I just wish they got rid of the sailor uniform costume >_> That'll make me more impressed on the character design. hehe. Sailor uniforms are suxh common anime costumes x_x Please don't imitate Sailormoon that they have to be in sailor outfits to do action x_x
Anywayz, back to Makina:
Of course one of the highlights of Makina's character is her gunskills and her fighting styles. I think Death the Kid of Soul Eater does cooler gunfights, but she's okay. If I think of Maka of Soul Eater to fight with guns, I can imagine her to have a similar fighting style as Makina xD Hehe.
Anywayz, this is Gainax action scenes. The style may be pretty similar on other Gainax shows, but if it's awesome, I have no complains. And yes, Shikabane Hime fight choreography is awesome! xD
Oh another thing I find cool about Makina:
When I see bath scenes in shounen anime, they're usually perverted fanservice >_> Not on this one though ^_^ We just get to see those scars on Makina's body. Makes us wonder what the hell's she's been through. Cool.
Overall, Makina's one cool chick:
She's evil in a way too, when she kills off her enemies. Her smile over there reminded me so much of Revy from Black Lagoon xD
Oh, another thing that I find nice about the leading female:
She's not perfect! At time she can also get into trouble or overpowered. I'm so sick of main characters that are just too powerful x_x (there are some exceptions of course, like my recent favorite: Casshern. hehe)
So since the main character can't do everything by herself, she has a partner:
Keisei is some monk that I think is in a contract with her. She does the killings and he helps her out. She never dies, but if he does, she'll go bye bye as well ^^; . . . INTERESTING *_*
The partners in crime:
They kinda remind me of Ichigo and Rukia from Bleach:
Keisei = Ichigo: because they look freakin' alike x_x They have the same costume if Ichigo's in shinigami mode
Makina = Rukia: because they are both . . .err . . not human. and they had died.
They also help each other out and have some special connection *_* They also hunt some evil element (in Bleach they're hollows then here are corpses)
Though they have similarities with my Bleach OTP:
The major difference is that they're not tsundere towards each other xD LOL! They are honestly close. They don't hit each other. They say they worry and care for the other directly. They protect each other and admit their obvious reasons for doing so (that Ichigo and Rukia didn't ever openly admit to each other that they want to protect each other because they're important. They say it to other people instead x_x Oh you two! ^^;)
Back to Makina and Keisei . . . oh I love their relationship xD They're so freakin' SWEET! =3
But no, after seeing Ouri, I don't consider them as my top favorite couple anymore ^^; It's okay for me if they become canon, but they're not my OTP xD
Alright, let's talk about Keisei's relationship with other characters;
I dunno what's his connection to the lady who takes care of the kids with him, but it seems that she knows of his supernatural job ^^; Hmmm . . .I wonder . . .
And those two showed some crack comedy in the show:
I love Gainax crack xD The crack comedy that amused me so much in this episode was when Ouri got pissed for being called "Hanagami" and he just went "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH"
Maybe it's just me, but I really find it so amusing xD Cracked me up a lot xD It reminds me of how I react sometimes when I get so pissed. LOL!
It has some porn comedy too by the way:
I'm alright with perverted comedy, as long as its not overexagerrated and if it's really funny. I'm totally alright with characters who like porn. At least those characters, at least many of them, don't really harass women. (This reminds me of Frau from 07-Ghost. Hehe).
Anywayz, Ouri is Keisei's lil' bro (not sure if adopted or biological bro) and he's abused a lot xD Haha. Even by the kids xD
But when he needed to go and live elsewhere:
the kids were so sad . . . aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwww xD
I think he moved in to the dorm of his buddies at school:
First screenshot reminded me so much of Natsume (of Natsume Yuujinchou) and his two friends x_X Then there's this tough girl who beats one of the friends up . . . no idea who she is x_x But I find her interesting ^_^
Alright, now about our leading guy:
When I first saw him in the manga, I already excailmed: CUTE!!! xD But his anime version seems . . ordinary. Except for some scenes (like the screenshot above). He looks very cute there =3 SQUEE! xD
His hairstyle kinda reminds me of Tsuna from Hitman Reborn though x_X eeeeeeeehhhhhhhhh
He seems to be one of those normal highschool boys that somehow got involved with something supernatural. His character role is freakin' common. Example of guys like that are Senkawa of Birdy the Mighty Decode and Kyon of Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
Though he seems to be a pretty plain character, and those events where he gets involved with supernatural stuff is jsut too coincidental . . . there's something about him that's pretty interesting:
And that is, he can communicate with the talking kitty! O_O His role may not be as simple as it seems. His simple actions had actually been extremely helpful to the active cast (like with what happened at chapter 4 of the manga). I also find it interesting that he's not the one who's in a contract or in some special bond/connection with the leading female (like with Code Geass).
Well, though as of now he's not in a special bond or connection with the leading female, but for sure in the future they will have an interesting relationship, romantic or not:

I think this is the scene when Makina regained consciousness, or got alive again, I assume that something like this happened:
Makina: You weren't scared? (I guess she expects people to be freaked out to see her brought back from the dead)
Ouri: *some speech that tells her he's not afraid and he wanted to help her like his brother did or something*
THEY BOTH LOOK SO CUTE IN THAT SCENE xD
However, that sweet moment ended with this:
^^; LOL! Maybe I have a thing for this type of couple . . . hahaha!
Looking forward to see the next episode! xD the villain of this episode is kinda pathetic though, but I'm sure the next episode will still be awesome xD And yay for more Ouri, Keisei, and Makina =3 (OT3? Maybe xD)
Overall, this is a good action-packed episode. It's a little cliche on some parts, but the main story's interesting. I see its potential to be a very awesome series xD Characters had been great. No one in particular had annoyed me to hell ^^; Hehe. It gave me Bleach vibes but it just had more dark and horror stuff. ^_^
