Trinity - the Matrix trilogy
Her death scene absolutely gutted me when I watched Matrix Revolutions in cinemas. Seriously, why do all kickass chick characters end up dying horribly? That said, looking back now her relationship with Neo kind of irks me, especially the “saving someone’s life with true loves kiss” thing. I normally don’t mind saving the day with love plots but I think I’ve had one too many lately and thinking back on the end of the Matrix...yeah. Annoying. But boy can the girl rock a black vinyl catsuit!
Théoden - Lord of the Rings
Dudes played by Bernard Hill in the movies so there’s always a huge amount of epicness there to start with, but that aside I’m kind of on the fence about him. I get that he’s trying to keep his own kingdom safe and everything but some of the decisions he made just had me hopping up and down going, “DUDE. JUST LEND A HAND FFS.” Of course in the end he redeems himself big time and his big speech in RotK remains one of my favourites, as does his final scene with Eowyn. I loved the relationship between them - she really was more like his daughter than his niece and I think it’s just gorgeous.
Tin Tin - The Adventures of Tin Tin
I used to watch the cartoon as a kid and recently caught the movie (which was awesome). This guy is just such a champ, he’s like a mini ginger Sherlock Holmes/Macgyver clone or something. He’s totally unflappable and always has a trick up his sleeve. LOVE.
TIM-MAY!! - South Park
I have a soft spot for this character because he was introduced to the show as I was finishing primary school and his famous catch cry was very very often quoted around me and thus reminds me of school mates and the awkward hilariousness of being twelve years old and watching trash TV. Even now I have to admit I will have a bit of a giggle if he turns up in an episode, though I don’t make a habit of watching the show anymore.
Ten (the Doctor) - Doctor Who
What can I possibly say about this guy? He is by turns the most lollarious, spazzy, dorktastical, stupid man in the universe - and then he gets sad and I feel like someone has taken my heart very tenderly out of my chest cavity and stomped all over it in football boots. I loved Ten, I really did. He could be a dick, he wasn’t always right and he did a lot of foolish things but he was just so, so human. The saddest thing about him, for me, is that when he regenerated, this man who so NEEDED people, who fell apart without someone there to stop him from going over the edge...he regenerated alone. Without the family he had found in Rose and her mum and Mickey, without the magnificent Martha Jones or the wonderful, forbidding, but ultimately lost Donna. The loneliest man in the universe, who had lived and loved so much...died alone. No wonder Eleven has so many issues thinking that he isn’t loved. :(
