I disagree, and would post this quote with all due respect and affection, as you know I have for you :)
"Yet some of you who have provided the ears without which no tale can survive a single day are likely not so willing. You are the grim-goal oriented ones who will not believe the the joy is in the journey rather than the destination no matter how many times it has been proven to you. You are the unfortunate ones who still get the lovemaking all confused with the paltry squirt that comes to end the lovemaking (the orgasm is, after all, God's way of telling us we've finished, at least for the time being, and should go to sleep). You are the cruel ones who deny the Grey Havens, where tired characters go to rest. You say you want to know how it all comes out."
Sure, but... if the last hour of the journey to the Grey Havens consisted of us being punched in the face, we're going to be a bit peeved. And we're going to wonder why it was necessary to punch us in the face for an hour to GET to the Grey Havens. A good writer will give us a nice cart ride to the Grey Havens so that we can feel properly happy for the characters and their ending.
I know love ;) I don't agree with all of the essay I linked. My issue was not so much with the ending, it was more the lead up to it. I was mainly just so disappointed at all the potential the series had which it never tapped. Okay, so you don't answer all the questions, that's okay. And with a lead up like they had it was going to be pretty damn hard to do a finale that ultimately satisfied everyone but...there's just so many things about the final three seasons (of what I saw or read about) that just made me feel so sad/disappointed.
I dunno. I need to sit down and properly watch the last three seasons and re-evaluate again. Just...arhjk show why are you still sucking me in three years after I officiall stopped watching :P
