S - Sail Away by David Gray. This is the first David Gray song I ever downloaded and I became thoroughly obsessed with it for a long while. It’s still one of my favourite DG songs.
A - Affirmation by Savage Garden. This is like, the quintessential SG song. I first became acquainted with them in 1999/2000 when my best friend at school listened to them all the time when I was over at her place. This my friends is 90’s pop at its absolute best.
P - Peaches by The Presidents of the United States of America. This song cracks me up. Its got to be the most useless song in the history of useless songs, the lyrics are absolute rubbish but its because of this that I love it and I sing along to it every time I hear it - it reminds me of high school because we used to sing it at our music teacher to piss him off =P
P - Perfect Day by Miriam Stockley. This was the theme to the Beatrix Potter TV series thingo where they had her telling all her stories and as a kid I used to watch right till the end of the credits so I could sing along - I loved watching the kids in the credits running around in all their bloomers and old fashioned clothes.
H - Hello by Evanescence. This song has such a beautiful feeling of melancholy about it, this was a song I had on repeat for about six months a year ago or so. Something about piano just really reaches me and I love Amy Lee’s voice as well. I particularly like the line “don’t try to fix me, I’m not broken”
I - I Like Giants by Kimya Dawson. This song is pure brilliance - I heard it recently on Triple J and just had to download it. She just never stops to draw breath and the lyrics are just hilariously brilliant.
R - Ride on Shooting Star by the Pillows. The theme song from FLCL. I’ve never actually watched it but this always reminds me of the advert I watched for it with Blair and we both agreed that the chick with the goggles was hot lol =P
E - El Tango de Roxanne from Moulin Rouge. This song is so sexy and yet angsty and tragic all at the same time. It’s always been my favourite song from Moulin Rouge. The string section in this song makes my spine go all tingly.
C - Claude Monet by Thirsty Merc. My friend Casey recced this song to me sometime last year and I’ve loved it ever since, it’s just so bouncy and happy and *love!*
H - How I Go by Yellowcard. Another song recced by Casey! This is one guitar song that I really, really love. Possibly because it’s in 6/8 and I love waltzing around to it ha ha. The harmonies are pretty too and it’s just a really beautiful, uplifting song.
I - Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. I have the normal AND acoustic version of this song and I just love it to death. This is one of those quintessential shipper songs that I associate with every single OTP under the sun. It’s just…guh so good. I could listen to it forever.
L - Lemon Tree by Fools Garden. The crash at the beginning (crockery? Glass? Anyone?) is the best bit of the whole song. I love the pauses in this song, like the singer stops to think about what they’re going to say next. Got this about five years ago off my cousin - although I’d heard it before then - and I loved it straight away.
D - Delicate by Damien Rice. There is just SOMETHING about this song that I love to pieces. This takes pride of place as my favourite all time song - so a big thank you Lost for introducing me to Damien Rice! I saw it on the tracklisting for “…In Translation” and d/led it, only to find myself listening to it non stop till…well, I still do listen to it non stop! That should give you some indication of how much I enjoy listening to this song.
