Yesterday (6-5-06) was my first official day of working at Lowe's. It went very well. All we did was go over company policy and benefits, etc. I got my ID badge which was the coolest thing that happened from 8am-3pm. But around 3 I got to meet my manager. There is one other guy going through the training program and he is going to me in the same group under the same manager as me. We both wanted to meet our manager and he turned out to be a really neat guy (from first impressions anyway). We actually ended up talking until after 5:00!
Today was my first day of store visits. They're sending me to Boone. I get to go with Brandon, so that's nice. And there are 2 other guys with us and both of them are named Jason. But, we had a decently good time I suppose. We arrived at 9am and had to do a store scavenger hunt. So we're walking around the store trying to find where things are and we're wearing these bright red targets (aprons) so we get stopped a gazillion times from customers asking questions. And we basically just took them on our scavenger hunt with us. And found lots of other employees to help find stuff. I ended up in the paint section for a while. That was what I mastered. I can now take any time of paint sample and mix the paint or take and scan a specific color that you may have. It was pretty neat. And for the end of the day we stocked paint shelves. We got like 14 flats of paint stuff to unload and stock on the shelves. Needless to say, that was a LOT of hard work. At least 8 of us were working on it at one time. And it still wasn't anywhere near finished when we left at 5. So two more days of that and then back to the office.
Needless to say, I'm very glad that I'm going to be in the office. I have a new understanding for anyone who works in that type of environment :) Good for you if that's your thing!
Oh and I screwed up and lost a lot of important information when I formatted my computer. So I'm slowly but surely beginning to get things back in order. It's a SUCKY feeling to lose stuff. But, then again, I wanted a fresh new start....I guess I got one.
