Furthermore it certainly isn't his fault that some small commotion on the street to his left catches his attention for a few moments. That tree was more than far enough away to let him keep walking in a straight line atop the wall for at least another several feet.
So there is no logical reason that a large branch hit him in the head when he didn't duck (having no reason to), or that in his (reasonable) surprise his grip on the shingles below him was compromised.
