Time Passing

DST means no more night filled headscarfed drives from work. Such a simple pleasure. And a potentially dangerous one. A few nights ago I was harassed by asshole driven pickup truck. When I wear a scarf I loosely shroud my face if I'm in any kind of populated area. This truck, flying American flags front and back, peeled out the liquor store parking lot, ran right up behind me, lights flashing. I slowed, he slowed, I went faster, he went faster. Clearing town, he would drop back then speed forward as if trying to rear end me, finally screeching around me, horn blaring, middle finger out the window followed by a beer bottle.

What in the hell had I done to set him off? Nothing. Oooooh, wait a sec. He saw my full headscarf as I drove by and instead of thinking of Grace Kelly, he thought I was a Muslim woman in hi jab. With the fubar Iraqi action, he responded as would any red-blooded American patriot. All I can think of and it makes me realize the vulnerability of headscarved women. It is no longer a fashion statement but one of perceived politics. That sucks. Big time.
