What do you mean, fake stars?

People older than me say that they look different now. I can't think of why, except...

Maybe they're not really in space.

DTB: too fabulous for logic! obliviomancy November 28 2009, 20:41:08 UTC
Well, it'd make a lot more sense that way. Real stars aren't exactly easy to get rid of.

basically, someone divided by zero. sapanwood November 28 2009, 20:57:46 UTC
But the sun's still there! I know that's a real star.

... I don't think people can travel to space in my world either.

of course. that's how all the fun math starts. obliviomancy November 28 2009, 21:01:34 UTC
The sun's different, though.

... are you supposed to?

Because it's the closest star?

They used to back before the Gates appeared. Especially when my Papa was a kid... they called it the "space race."

Not exactly. Most stars are other worlds. And I don't think you can live on the sun.

Before the Gates, huh...? Were they trying to get somewhere?

Other worlds? I know they used to be balls of gas light years away, but other worlds... I've never heard of that before.

The moon! That's all they could reach back then, but they sent out satellites to explore the rest of the solar system.

Balls of gas? I don't think I've heard that one before either.

Then... I don't get it. Why'd they stop after they found the Gates?

Because they had other matters to worry about. More important things than exploring space.

You mean like learning about the Gates?

sapanwood November 28 2009, 22:01:23 UTC
Yes. Even my father switched to researching them...

obliviomancy November 28 2009, 22:02:47 UTC
But I thought you said no one understood them yet.

That's why scientists try to research them. They have to start by figuring out bits and pieces, but overtime- maybe they will figure it out.

It's only been thirteen years.

... that's still a pretty long time, though.

It's enough time for a lot of things to change, but not long enough to understand everything. We were still trying to understand the world even before the Gates.

... What's a "long time" for you?
