oh man.
OH MAN. :'( NOSTALGIA. SO HARD. SO. HARD. Like literally after I was done watching I sat back all "懐かしい!! 超懐かしい!!!!" yes, in Japanese, I know I am a dork shutup
IT'S LIKE THE ANIMATORS WERE PERSONALLY PEEKING INTO MY BRAIN AND PICKING OUT ALL THE THINGS I LOVED ABOUT WATCHING NARUTO BACK IN THE DAY. Kakashi being desu/masu-tastic to clients and inner Sakura and "Shannaroooo!!" and bickering-yet-loving Team 7 and Orochimaru being a creeping creepster hanging with his dude Kabuto and the Chuunin exams and Kakashi's hair being on-model and THE ENDING MUSIC HARUKA KANATA OMFGGGGGG
The whole thing was like one long love-letter to the old school fans. ; A ; incidentally I can't believe the series has been around so long I can actually call myself an old-school fan even though I didn't get into it until like '04 @_@
I figured it would be jarring watching something 3-D animated in the Narutoverse, but the graphics engine worked really well. Most of the time it just looked like another episode of the original TV series but with really good production values. The action scenes were fast-paced, well-directed and exciting (and they brought back the original music!!!! None of Shippuuden's THIS IS SRS BSNS orchestral crap :D), and of course the magic of CG meant basically zero "GOOD NARUTO YOU LOOK KIND OF COOL" moments. As mentioned above, the fact that Kakashi + Kakashi's hairdo looked attractive throughout instead of looking like a small animal had died on his head was very much appreciated by yours truly 8( That's one of the things that always bugged me about the original anime... As I was watching it I continually kept thinking, "This is the Naruto they would've liked to make back in the day, if only they'd had more money." Seriously, doing the action sequences in CG made all the difference. Tight-cut, fast-paced, everybody flipping around throwing shuriken and doing ninja shit smoothly and fluidly with never an awkward move anywhere. I've always thought Naruto's action sequences (pre-Shippuuden) were generally very well-animated to begin with, so seeing something that was a step up for the series even from that was quite a revelation.
Anyway, this was good stuff. I had squealy fangirling-Kakashi moments. Made me feel enthusiastic about the series for the first time in a very long while. :') *happy fangirl*
