This morning I finished reading The Passion of Jesus Christ by John Piper....it was quite good! No, in case you were confused by the title, it's not an expose on the movie....it's a book that outlines fifty reasons why Jesus had to suffer for our sins. It was quite thought-provoking.....
It was funny....awhile ago my uncle Steve (who I am staying with) and I were having a discussion about women's roles in the church (imagine that!! =))...I was enjoying it immensely and I think that he was too....about two-thirds of the way through the discussion, he turns to his wife and says "Mary Pat, doesn't this remind you of the discussions that we used to have with Karen?"! =) For those of you who don't know...Karen is my mother and before she married my dad, she used to live quite close to Mary and Steve and spent alot of time with them. I thought that it was quite funny.....two generations of women who "like to discuss things"! =) You gotta love it! =)
Yesterday I went to the YMCA nearby to use the dance studio, and, because I was rather tired of my CDs, I turned on the Christian radio station to listen to while I stretched and did barre. Eventually a song came on and it was talking about how (in reference to prayer) "you can make a wish, and it will come true" and how you should "make a list of things He can do for you". At first I was quite appalled...but then it just kind of made me mad!! I mean, God isn't supposed to be your candy store....His purpose is not to fulfill your wishlist!! Your purpose is to serve HIM!!! Ahhhh...I'd say more, but I have to go!
