Today has been disgustingly hot and humid... 90 degrees, and it's only early June (We're not used to this in Maine... freak snowstorms we understand, but uncharacteristically warm weather?? That sort of thing tends to send us all into a state of mass confusion). I set up a jumbo fan in my bedroom, but all that seems to be doing is blowing the already stale-and-sticky air around even more. Yum.
Played a little DVD Trivial Pursuit: Pop Culture edition this morning with the fam... I picked it up for two bucks at Dump & Run (this big yard sale that my college puts on with all the stuff that the students leave behind in their rooms each year... fridges, furniture, electronics, TONS of clothes). It was definitely worth the couple bucks, but I've decided that Trivial Pursuit is REALLLY HARD. At least with the pop culture version I stand a fighting chance - when they throw in history/science/literature, I'm a goner.
In honor of this (overly) warm SUMMERY day, I wanted to do a quick run-down of some summer movies that I'm pumped for. I'm not usually a fan of the big action-packed blockbuster-y type movie, but there are definitely a few flicks that I'm hoping to check out:
Sex and the City - Okay, I know it's already out, so I'm not sure that it makes sense to say I'm pumped for it's arrival... but I'm definitely excited to finally get my butt to the theater to see it. None of my home-friends are real SATC fans, and I don't even think I could drag my mom to it (She's usually pretty open-minded, but she got turned off to it while I was loudly watching an episode a few months ago that prominently featured the c-word... I think she thinks they're all sluts.) The preview looks GREAT though, and I've heard some very positive reviews. I NEED to see it before it leaves theaters... I'm totally not above going solo if that's what it takes.
The Dark Knight- Let me just preface this by saying that I think I'm the only person in America who just doesn't get the superhero movie hype. Iron Man was good. A few others that I've seen have been bearable, at best. But, on the whole, it's proven to be a genre that just isn't for me. With that said, the clips I've seen of Heath Ledger's character SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF ME. And it is for that reason alone that I will be trekking to the theater for this one.
WALL-E- I looooove Pixar (every single Pixar movie I've seen has brought me to tears.... awk-ward.) I'm totally intrigued by the fact that a good chunk of the movie is dialogue-free, from what I hear. If it was anyone else but Pixar, I'd be skeptical. And isn't there a girl robot, too? If it involves a cute-little-robot-love-story, I'm already sold.
The Happening- I still have faith in you, M.Night...
I'm off to the grandparents' to visit some visiting out-of-state relatives, and maybe to play a little poker (and possibly some Apples to Apples, which has been our game of choice here lately. I was infinitely excited when I discovered that they have a "Laverne & Shirley" card the other day. I ended up with it in my hand, and totally won the round, because L&S TRUMPS EVERYTHING, duh).
