Only in Maine...

All this talk about the wonder that is Hussey's General Store somehow led to me stumbling upon a wonderful blog entitled, Only in Maine. It pretty much rocks my shorts... This great picture was on the sidebar, proving that if you want to travel the world, all you really have to do is come to Maine (because we have this thing for naming our small towns after exotic foreign places, apparently):

They also had this great collection of entries from the Maine Police Log (most of which are from entries right in my area, which possibly proves that I live in the craziest part of the state).

May 16, 2008: IN WINSLOW, Friday at 2:33 p.m., a youth from Maple Ridge Road reported that she works and gave her mother $100 to buy her a regular cell phone and her mother bought a Trac phone instead and put minutes on it and kept $50 that was left over.

April 22, 2008: IN WATERVILLE, Tuesday at 10:52 p.m., police investigated report of a burglary in progress on Waterville Road, where someone opened a man’s window and started to climb in.

The victim, who lives on the second floor, woke up and asked the subject crawling through the window and said ‘Can I help you?’ The victim said the kid responded: “ ‘ I’m the paperboy’ and ran off.”

May 15, 2007: IN WATERVILLE, Tuesday at 5:19 p.m., A drunken woman was reported on Kennedy Memorial Drive. She told police she had been drinking beer, but switched to mouthwash because it was not as expensive.

So yeahhh... I had a lot of fun browsing that site. Mainah Pride.

In other news... the apartment searching yesterday wasn't exactly successful, but somehow, in the midst of everything, I came to realize that I'm actually really excited about living in Cambridge. I've been a little nervous about it all (and I still am), but the area by Alicia's current apartment is really pretty and collegey, and seems very fun and active... I can totally picture myself there. I'm probably going back later this week so that we can look at more places... hopefully we have better luck this time.

Spent tonight watching Ever After, which I hadn't seen in FOREVER, but recently bought because it used to be a huge favorite of mine. It really is a great movie... fairy-tale-ish without resorting to dumb cliches, featuring a main character who's sweet but also totally smart and self-reliant.  I also consumed an extraordinary amount of Lemonade Pie, which is one of my summertime favorites (simply vanilla ice cream + frozen lemonade concentrate, in a graham cracker pie crust - sounds disgusting, but it's amazing).

Oooh, and in other news, WE'RE GETTING CABLE TV AND DSL!!!! You have nooooo idea how excited this makes me!!! After two years of no cable TV and only realllly slow dial-up internet, my parents finally caved. The lady on the phone told my mom it was "child abuse" to still have dial-up, and so I thank RandomSalesLady for really laying on the guilt trip. I'm SO pumped... it's getting installed Thursday, and so I'm already browsing hulu to decide what TV shows I'm going to start watching first (and HOORAY I can now watch the last two episodes of Greek!! And the new season of Weeds!!). I gladly welcome any suggestions for shows to watch online in celebration of finally having "real" Internet!!!

Finally, let me just say that I enjoyed that last TV meme wayyyy too much (I'm a dork, I know...). I'd love to see other people's responses for their own Top 6 shows, so please steal away!!!
