Nothing can compare to Vancouver in the spring.
There's fresh air, birds chirping cheerfully, cherry blossoms galore, parted clouds revealing the North Shore mountains in all their snowy-capped glory, and those eager Vancouverites who enthusiastically dare to bare their still snowy white shins on the first sunny (but chilly) days of the season. Yet there is nothing that can bring a smile to even the most jaded hipster's face as.. Dare I say it?
Playoffs.
Of course, the word has much more weight if the Canucks are a part of the post-season and, this year, we were! (We didn't get knocked out in the first round either.) Yes, we are truly blessed.
After defeating the Dallas Stars in seven games, we moved on to face the (formerly mighty) Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks took Game One with a final score of 5-1, but we came back with a 2-1 double-overtime victory in Game Two. The Canucks returned to Vancouver with the series tied 1-1 and you just knew that GM Place would be insane.
So, as we had promised ourselves earlier in the year, Aaron Gurney and I were TOTALLY THERE for Game Three!
We arrived extremely early to try and get rid of two single tickets that I had, stupidly, purchased before Aaron was able to use his cunningness and acquire a pair of lower bowl tickets for a (relatively) cheap price. After unloading the tickets on a scalper (ugh) in front of GM Place, we walked over to Science World and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine.
Amazingly talented photography skills courtesy of me.
This just oozes Vancouver-ness: Canucks and mountains.
About an hour later, we headed back to GM Place in hopes of catching the pre-game skate (stopping off at a Starbucks along the way). Near the skytrain station (Main) there was the most awesome low-rider bicycle "gang" ever. I should have taken a picture, but I'm lazy. And shy.
Look at all those towels just waiting to be waved around and into people's faces (intentionally or not).
Everyone's favorite (assistant) captain.
The one and only Markus Naslund.
Unfortunately, there were no bras on the ice for him that night.
My trigger finger is just too slow for "action" shots.
One day we'll have one that says "Stanley Cup Champions"!
Starting lineup: Pyatt, Daniel, Sopel, Henrik, and Ohlund.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my FIRST EVER NHL playoff game. Hopefully, it will be the first of many more in the (not too distant) future! Of course, having awesome company doesn't hurt either.
Although the game (and the series) did not end in our favour, I have high hopes for next season!
Oh, and you know I just HAD to sing along to the national anthem before the game. Please excuse the fact the I am completely out of tune and go from loud to soft in random intervals, but, hey! that's what it's all about, right? Screaming and singing your lungs out, so that you have absolutely no voice at the end of the game!
