If that's really how you pronounce it, then how come PKD shortened it to 'phoce' instead of 'phoke'? Maybe that's how it's said, regardless.

Okay, is 'phoce' a common diminutive for the condition? Did PKD make it up? If he didn't, then, okay. If he did, it's a little AWKWARD, is all.
