Oh yeah, you all should do like 343 and make self-portrait mixes. Post them here if you want, so long as you do it.
Although, query, would it be more manageable if I did something like mandate fewer than five songs? For brevity and such?

Sadly, my "mix" would only have one song.

But it's a really good song, at least.

Well, dang I used to have an mp3 of it.

The song is "Aunt Hagar's Children's Blues" as performed by the Isham Jones Orchestra.

Realistically, "rules" for something like this are jus' guidelines. The assignment for my mix was "10 songs", but there was at least one artist who only included one track (the Moxy Früvous cover of "Psycho Killer"). So yeah. The theme is "Self Portrait". If kids wanna submit a 10 hour MP3 of the sound of toilets flushing, that's gonna paint a picture.

Hokay-find your own versions of these, but:

Franz Schubert's Sonata for Arpeggione & Piano in A minor AND his Piano Quintet in A ("Trout")

Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no. 2

Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor

Antonin Dvorak's Piano Trio In E Minor, Op. 90 (Dumky)

Led Zeppelin "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp"

Pucho and his Latin Soul Brothers "Greasy Greens"

Clutch "The Yeti"

Silly Wizard "The Queen of Argyll"

Phish "The Landlady"

I'm afraid I've reached 10 already...

Hee. Once I got started it was really hard to narrow down. I was thinking more in terms of personal anthems and less of "songs whose lyrics parallel my life". So I don't know if my answers qualify.
It bugs me that there are two Schubert pieces. Should spread it out more, but there you are.

So whaddabout you?

That said, there ARE many parallels between some of those lyrics and my beliefs. Most specifically The Yeti:

"One would think that in a life/ where no two snowflakes are alike/one would have a brilliant rhyme/ for each and every bit of time"

Which I don't. But one ought to.

Otherwise they all have something to say more generally about attitudes that are in line with mine: wistfulness, awe, and joie de vivre mainly.
