The show was postponed this weekend for ice storms. It's rescheduled til the end of the month (still finding out if I'll be able to do it, with my work schedule) so Andy and I found ourselves with an unexpected long weekend and absolutely no plans.
Until!
"Do you want new bookshelves?" He asks.
My god, yes!
So this weekend found us driving to the far side of Pittsburgh (you know, the part we never go to) on a wintry day that everyone else was staying home for, and venturing to IKEA. My huge bloody wardrobe came from there, but neither of us have every actually been to the place before. My goodness. I now understand the awe and reverence people use to speak about it; any department store where you go in and they have to hand you a map.
I was quite proud of us because we're both really quite shy and a little bit awkward and kind of easily overwhelmed in large places where we might have to actually approach apathetic employees in order to spend large amounts of money. But the bookshelves were found and purchased in rather short order and we were able to make a day of it out & about in the rest of the city. And then, bookshelves!
I have been asking for them for roughly forever. After all of these arguments about whether or not we have space, I think andy finally got sick of having stacks of books everywhere. I don't have enough to fill these, though, and now I feel the overwhelming need to compensate. So that was our weekend, along with reconstructing our apartment to the older, more space-efficient setup. Much needed spring cleaning, just a little bit early. I'd forgotten how much space we actually have and now the place doesn't seem nearly so oppressive. Other random things, because I have pictures of them:
The fairy door my mother made me for christmas. It's really quite adorable.
The baby gravy fairy earrings my mother made me! (KoL reference, if you don't get it. Isn't that fantastic?) I keep telling her she needs to open an etsy- between her random polymer creations, fairy doors, paintings, heck even her nutrolls and cinnamon rolls- i'm sure she'd do fine. one of these days i'll convince her. )
