Things I have been up to at the shop

Oh yes, balloons.

I didn't have to make the arch, though. Actually, i didn't even tie any together, i learned instead that my stubby little fingers are incapable of it. I blew them up for jes instead.

Last week, I had a man call from Wisconson. Asking if we could get a 35ft balloon arch (large enough to go over a street) to Wisconson, and, if so, how much it would cost. My reply was somewhat less than intelligent, as I was trying very hard not to a.) start laughing at him or b.) tell him expressly just how much he doesn't want us to do that.

Centerpieces I've made in the past two weeks:

Boring but typical. This is actually without the metallic gold ribbon that accents it. The fun thing about this is one is that we really don't have very many of those dark leaves, so you have to cram it with flowers to prevent bare spots. I didn't realise this at first, and made maybe 3/4 of them with twice as many leaves as the prototypes, hoping desperately that we had more in a box somewhere. (mine looked much better, after all.) We didn't.

This is actually one of my  favorites that I've ever done.  This picture is  a terrible representation; they also have small pink flowers and small bunches of grapes scattered with the flowers in the arrangement itself. These are usually done in one of our tall eiffel vases, but this time, the couple had them on top of 6- and 8- ft. columns, as pictured, and placed them around the doorways. I was experimenting with wrapping the ivy around the columns with a few purple blossoms- the effect was lovely, very Dionysian, but I took them down, because I was under the impression that couple wanted it more simplified. They ended up wrapping the ivy anyway. I wish I would've gotten a picture.

Another fun thing about these ones- the columns light up from their bases. Potentially tacky, but can look very cool whenever well decorated and placed in low light. It was incredibly boring at the shop, so I thought- what if the grapes lit up too? We have special LEDs for florals, so I pulled out a handful of those, and wired up a bunch, sliding the tiny lights in to the grapes and hiding the battery pack behind it. Completely inefficient, but also potentially cool. We didn't end up doing that.

florals, work
