The Crafty Ruth Survives Her 5th Big Day Out

I fell over twice. I'm burnt to a crisp. I lost everybody. And I had a fucking excellent time.
The first band I saw was 8 Foot Sativa. I've never caught them live since I've always had better things to do or see, and I spent most of the time sitting on the grass talking to everybody.
Then came the Bleeders. I love the Bleeders (even before they became big, so nayah). I had a hard time convincing people to join me in the mosh pit. However I ran into Rachel and we had a gay old time. I lost everyone by then, but ah well I'll do things my way fuck 'em.
So I cruised around, saw a band called the Checks. I quite like them, they're a kiwi band to so check out the Checks (tehe) when you have a chance. I saw 10 minutes of Deja Voodoo. Took off to see the Donnas, ran into Gizzy and Simon who wanted to see Rise Against. Why, lord, why did the Donnas and Rise Against have to be on at the same time?. I made the tough decision to see the Donnas, and I don't regret this.
I went back to the green and essential stages to find Nicole and Jay. Found Simon instead. So we hunted around, caught a wee bit of Shapeshifter in the Boiler room. And At last found Nicole and Jay. We all thought seeing Le Tigre would be a good idea so we went to wait for them. Nicole then decided she wanted to go on a ride, so she took off, we tired again to look for her, then I thought "fuck this I didn't pay $90 to play Where's Wally" and ran off to catch Le Tigre.
For those of you who don't know Le Tigre they are a 3 piece all grrl feminist electro punk band. I've only ever heard good things about their live shows, and I was not disappointed. Synchronized dance moves, audience participation and matching outfits. The front woman finished off the show with a cartwheel and splits. I'm so buying their album.
I bummed about for some time until I caught the Mint Chicks. Another great kiwi act. SEE THEM! SEE THEM!SEE THEM!. I scored a free "Fuck the golden Youth" badge. Jay and I then raced to wards the Big Day Out money maker of 05.
SLIPKNOT. Worth every broken bone, bleeding nose, and major concussion. Wow! I finally saw Slipknot live. I wish it could've been five years earlier.
I tried leaving before Shihad (forgive us NZ puh-leeeeeese) played. But I couldn't see anything except, slipknot teeshirts and hoodys. Instinctively I grabbed on to some random guy, hoping he may know they way. We all, (when I say all I mean about 50 of us all desperately trying to escape from the The Really Wankey Sellout Band Formally Known As Pacifier.) ended up at the emergency exit. There was squashing and pushing and crushing. Somebody had the brilliant idea of climbing over the barricades, what else could we do?. We couldn't move anywhere else, the whole crowd was immobile. Along came the security guard, ew and he was one of those "I got picked on in high school" types to. He tried with all his might to stop us, but we pushed, we lifted, we pulled, then we ran, until the crowed was finally rid of the slipknot filth. Rock n roll.
Ok I'm getting tired now so yeah briefly, System are always good. Had us singing Dire Straights (I think?). Serj stopped the show and said "Hey there's a man down in the mosh pit" and I thought "oh no not again" tehe. Oh yeah the Big Day Out audience also got told off because of all "this circle nonsense".
The Beastie Boys: GOOD!. Very good.
Watched a wee bit of the Chemical Brothers, I found the silly dancing highly amusing.
Found my way home.
Yep, as always I had a great time at the Big Day Out.
