Poetic Cross-Currents

Ah, my brain synapses have been alight since they paused to listen to the refrain of "That Summer" by Garth Brooks:

She had a need to feel the thunder
To chase the lightning from the sky
To watch a storm with all its wonder
Written in her lover's eyes
She had to ride the heat of passion
Like a comet burning bright
Rushing headlong in the wind
Now where only dreams have been
Burning both ends of the night

The lyrics which have been italicized are those that inflamed my long term memories; of the few poetic verses I have rooted in my mind were, my memories recalled the poem "First Fig" by the esteemable Edna St Vincent Millay:

My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--
It gives a lovely light!

Ah, how amusing it is to imagine that, um, "That Summer" was inspired by "First Fig," but of course it is all coincidence because how often is the phrase "burning both ends" abused.
