Sledge always goes to bed first. It’s not that he can’t stay up late, or he has any reason to get up early. There’s no reason for him to go to bed when he does, none that Snafu can see anyway.
He could complain, but there ain’t no reason to. Not when Snafu gets to stub out his last cigarette of the night and crawl into an already warm bed, pressing himself to Sledge’s back and curl in close. It’s not cuddling, ‘cause it’s not like either of them are Brad.
Snafu knows Brad better than everyone, save maybe Ray. And Brad? Brad cuddles. Not that he’ll ever admit it.
But there are more important things for Snafu to think about before he falls asleep. Like the way Sledge always relaxes back against him, and the way he always sighs and smiles happily whenever Snafu whispers “cher” into his ear affectionately, kissing the spot just behind it softly, like Sledge can hear and feel him, even when he’s dreaming.
