Summary: Castiel gets a hobby.

When Dean suggested Castiel get a hobby, he had mostly been kidding. He just thought it was weird that Castiel spent all his time waiting around awkwardly while Sam and Dean slept.
Sam had thought it a brilliant idea though and that, more than anything, seemed to have convinced Castiel it was worth a shot.
Unfortunately, the three of them didn’t really know how to start. Collecting anything was a no-go, since they lived in such cramped quarters all the time and Dean flat out refused to let Castiel try to learn a musical instrument.
The only other possible solution Sam could think of was crocheting.
“Explain to me again how this isn’t the same thing as knitting?” Dean asked, prodding the lumpy scarf Castiel was making.
“You have two needles when you knit,” Sam explained. “Crocheting is easier. It’s just the one hook.”
“Right,” Dean said, looking over at his brother. “How do you even know that?”
Sam turned bright red, but didn’t answer. “I’m going to go get something to eat,” Sam said instead. “You keep working on that, Cas.”
Castiel nodded his head in a sharp jerk, but didn’t take his attention off of the dark blue scarf.
“You know,” Dean said slowly, poking his finger through a loose stitch, “you don’t have to do this. We can find you another hobby. Something less… girly.”
Castiel paused in his crocheting, cocking his head to the side as he looked at Dean. “Sam said the point of crocheting scarves was to give them to somebody you care about,” Castiel said, looking down at his blue atrocity. “They are not allowed to get rid of it because it is handmade and ‘from the heart’.”
“Who were you going to give it to?” Dean asked.
Castiel hesitated, dropping his gaze back down to his scarf while he started twining the hook through the loops again. “You,” he said, without meeting Dean’s gaze.
“Oh,” Dean said simply. He could feel his cheeks getting warm but he would never admit to blushing. “Um, carry on then.”
“Okay,” Castiel replied, glancing back up at Dean to smile.
“Cool,” Dean said, smiling in return.
