I'm trying to buy a car and I'm going slightly insane about it.
I'm just learning how to drive a manual so there's no point in getting an expensive car since I may just well drive it into something my first year. One guy will sell me a Fiat Punto for €1500, but Fiats have a bad reputation, even though the mechanic who owned the car 2 weeks ago replaced many major components in the engine, so it looks shiny and new. But head gaskets are known to blow on them, and they cost a fortune to replace. But I want a new car so I can pick my dad up from the airport when he comes to visit Nov.2, and to take Cathal and myself there on Nov. 16 and to drive to Killarney etc etc. I want a car, but I don't know if my patience will allow me to keep waiting. Should I go for the punto?!
Insurance is another headache altogether. My 7 year "no claims bonus" from my Canadian insurance doesn't matter in Ireland as they only accept them from EU countries. So my insurance, initially, is going to be through the roof. Retarded.
Also, I switched banks recently. They said foreign money transfers would be a snap and only cost fifty cents. But I found out last night that because my International Banking Number doesn't have a letter in it, that it will, in fact, cost me €30 per transfer. And I can't send a draft to my mom to deposit in my account as their new hometown doesn't have an RBC. So I think I will have to see if I can get a loan here to pay for my one at home and just do away with foreign transfers.
I am sick of things being difficult! I wish someone would just step in and do this stuff for me.
Grumblingly yours,
Shona
