The dream...

Sano opened one eye at the sound of his roommate Ashiya digging frantically through her school bag. He rolled from his side onto his back and pulled up the blankets to cover his bare chest, realizing that Mizuki must have pulled them lose after getting up. They had spent the night together again. Sano yawned, stretching his arms up above his head and closed his eyes.

“Sorry, did I wake you?”

Sano's eyes snapped open at the sound of the voice that came from so near his face and he found his dark eyes staring directly into Mizuki's chocolate ones.

“Nah, not really.” Sano mumbled. He couldn't help but get lost in her beautiful eyes. He looked at the soft brown hair framing her face and longed to lose his fingers in it. His eyes took in her pink cheeks, her red lips, and he wondered again what it would feel like to kiss her.

“Sano? Helloooo?” Mizuki waved her hand in front of Sano's face. He snapped out of his reverie and blushed, glad that she couldn't read his mind. “Welcome back, Sano,” she laughed.

“What are you looking for?” Sano asked.

“Oh, I can't find my Japanese homework from yesterday. I'm going to be in big trouble if I lost it again.”

Sano couldn't help but smile at the concern in Mizuki's voice. She continued digging frantically through her bag. He watched her for a minute or two, admiring her long thin legs in her big baggy men's clothing and her hair messed up from sleep. He though she looked adorable this way. Nakatsu must be stupid to not realize she's a girl. He thought. It's so obvious. I'm amazed that kid knows which direction to run on the soccer field. How can anyone be so oblivious? Sano let Mizuki search for a while longer before he pointed to the desk. “It's over there.”

“Ah! Ariagto!” Mizuki rushed over to the desk and grabbed her homework, clutching it to her chest. “Why didn't you tell me sooner?”

Sano just shrugged with a smirk on his face. “You're really cute when you're worried.”

“What??” Mizuki froze and looked up into Sano's eyes.

Did I actually say that out loud? Sano though to himself. “You're the most beautiful and fascinating girl I've ever met,” he blurted out. “I love you.”

Mizuki stared at him, a look of wonder and confusion of her face. “How did you know?” She asked him.

“That you were a girl? I've known for a while...” He replied.

“No, that you loved me.” Mizuki walked closer to Sano, standing right in front of him, staring up into his face.

Her lips. Sano couldn't stop starting at them. When she talked he was mesmermized by them. They were so red, they looked so soft. What did they taste like? What would they feel like on his? Before he realized what he was doing he leaned down and kissed her lips. Softly at first, then harder and deeper. He pulled back for a moment and gazed into her eyes.

“I love you, too.” She whispered. “I always have.”

And they were kissing again, Mizuki's arms thrown around Sano's neck, his arms around her waist, pulling her body tightly against his own. The door banged open and Nakatsu came barging in.

“Hey Sano, do you have the answer to question 2b for last night's homewo.... Oh.” He turned bright red. “I'll, uh, come back later.. when, uh.. you don't have your lips full.. uh, I mean hands full.. uh, I mean, uh, I'll come back later.” And he left the room, slamming the door behind him.

At the sound of the door slamming Sano jumped, his eyes popping open as he sat up in bed, his heart pounding and his face flushed. Mizuki made a soft snore from beside him and snuggled closer to his side. A dream. He though. Just a dream. He lay back down, staring up at the bunk above his own. It was a long time before he could get back to sleep.
