This month I've watched a record high of six movies in theatres. I used to watch on average one or two movies in a month. This month is just...strange. It is high likely something to do with the fact that I have ended my previous job. There are indeed also a few great movies this month.
Clash of the Titans
Have I mentioned this? I only watched this because the movie I wanted to watch, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, was taken down really quickly. So, left with a guy beside me, Clash seemed like the only good choice. It was below expectations though. Thankfully we watched it in 2-D instead of 3-D. Even if the graphics is awesome, it won't be able to justify for the poor plot. As I've watched Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief just a few weeks back, I couldn't help comparing the two movies while watching Clash. They are both about Greek Mythology, with Perseus as the protagonist. Clash feels like the more mature adaptation between the two. I'm not sure why some of my friends prefer Percy but I thought Clash is better. They're both below expectations though. Hahaha. Well, at least it's worth it to see Sam Worthington in action. :)
The Men Who Stare At Goats
I had already stated a really brief opinion of it
here. Lol.
Kick Ass
Originally I had planned to watch this with a friend who forgot about our date and watched it with someone else instead. (In the end, I watched this with my brother.) She had really high expectations of it when we saw the trailer; I didn't however, and thankfully so. It wasn't anything great but it was better than expected. It wasn't humorous but it made me laugh a couple of times (which actually isn't a big deal since I laugh so easily). The story wasn't solid but I teared at a scene (urm, I cry really easily too). The equipments/weapons they use in the movie are amazing! I think the one that Aaron Johnson's character used towards the end of the movie is real right? We can actually buy it in real life right? It's really superheroes come into life. Hmm. The thing I don't like much about the movie is how the characters just spam the word "fuck". Well, at least it made me decide to stop cursing! :P
Shutter Island
I talked about it in my previous
post. :)
Monga
This is a Taiwanese movie. My eldest brother and various friends who I never expect to watch a Chinese movie were raving about it on Facebook. The newspapers also gave it four stars, so I decided to bring my mother to the theatres to watch it. It has been a really long while since we watched a movie together in the cinemas. I'm glad that I've watched it! I'm not used to watching Taiwanese gangsters films; I'm more accustomed to Hongkong gangsters films. This is truly brilliant. This being a Taiwanese film, it cannot escape being funny and it was really hilarious! Well, the audience in the cinema then also contributed to the marvellous cinema experience I had. They laughed really loudly and heartily at the funny parts. There were really touching moments too, and for those moments I cried a lot. I really like the values and principals they talked about in the movie. There's also interesting directing which I enjoyed, notably the blood's link to the sakura. Well done! It's been a really long while since I watched a Chinese film too. Hehe. Oh! They used some English songs as background music for certain scenes, and though initlally I felt that it was strange, after a while I started to appreciate and enjoy the songs. But sadly, I have no idea what're the song names.
How To Train Your Dragon
I never used to like animated movies done by Pixar or Disney etc because I always thought that the story will be uninteresting since they're mostly targeted at kids. I just never understood the fascination for these animated movies when most people shunned anime. But after watching Up! I start to have a better opinion of them. That's why I agreed to watching this movie. Well, of course, the opinion of everyone who I know has watched this show is so positive, which intrigued me. And wow, yes, this movie is worth it. Too bad I watched it 2-D. I think it would have made a terrific 3-D experience. I love Toothless--he looks a lot like a Pokemon, but I don't know which; I love the many flying scenes--they make me feel like I could be flying too! If 2-D can already make me feel that way, 3-D will be even more awesome. The soundtrack is awesome too! :) Everytime I watch a show with a wonderful pet, I will always come home and look at my dog and wish he was something of it too. Well, he looks like he can be but I know he won't be. -.-
