Hey :D
Well, Christ College is a rather typical Indian college, rather unfortunately and you might find it difficult to adjust here. We've just got autonomy though so the system will be different for you, I think. Ummm...we generally have classes from 9 to 4, it's not fixed though, it really depends on your course and your subjects. Attendance is really mandatory and we have to have 75% attendance or we're fined (::sticks tongue out::) With autonomy, your exams will be in the hands of the college and it's best to make a good impression on your teachers. They're being really strict with correction though and will be for the next five years which is, again, unfortunate.
About friends...well, you'll get on fabulously with your classmates I'm sure! People are generally pretty friendly here and though your have your communities where people don't mingle, most people will probably go out of the way to welcome you :) No worries...
And YAY for Nanowrimo. Did you finish? I reached 20000 and then exams came in the way. ::sigh:: Planning to finish this month :)

I didn't finish!
I got to roughly 19,000 and then finals and winter vacation hit.
My name on there is Annu Ayim. The title is Distant Future!
I'll read yours if its up there!
Also,
Do you know how hard it is to find and apartment? My sister I don't know if the school we're going with is going to help us find one or not-so we're trying to look around now so that when its time to go, we're not stuck in some hotel somewhere in Karnataka LOL :).
Anywaym, thanks for the heads-up about Christ College! I'm sure it will be an adventure!
What are some of the classes that you yourself are taking??
Re: Christ CollegesanjubabaDecember 14 2005, 05:56:41 UTC
I dunno too much about finding an apartment cuz I live with my parents :P I don't really think it's too hard because a number of my friends live in PGs or hostels or apartments for that matter. I'll ask them and let you know?
I'm doing Communicative English with Psychology and English Lit. This sem we're doing radio and content writing as well as technical writing, along with developmental psych and Modern American Literature. Hmmm...it's gonna be rather difficult methinks.
What are you planning on doing? And really...why Christs?
Re: Christ CollegesanjubabaDecember 16 2005, 13:24:42 UTC
Ah, cool. I suppose you'll be doing all three years then?
A PG is a Paying Guest accomodation, where with monthly pay, you get a bed, a wardrobe and a kitchen I think, and a bunch of room mates all cramped into the bedrooms. Ok, I'm being mean. Not all of them are bad but most leave a lot to be desired.
Apparently renting an apartment is no joke so it might be better for you to come a little earlier so you can begin your hunt early. I suppose you'll be wanting a place close to college so that narrows your search down but since this is a high-demand area, it's still gonna be difficult. Rent rates are also high so be warned :(
The campus is AWESOME! It's among the biggest in Bangalore with a cafeteria, a food court AND a kiosk and if you're bored you can always go for one of the million restaurants around the place so food wont be a problem at all, even if you're on budget. Whether you stay in coll or go out really depends on the people you hang out with, I suppose. I tend to stick to college cause it's cheaper :P
And you're right, it does rain a ton. This year especially, the rains started in May and ended in November. Bangalore is famed for good weather but pollution and idiots cutting down trees have seen to that X( But it still is better than most Indian cities so you're lucky you chose Bangalore :)
LOL. Dont worry bout the questions. I'm glad to help. You know what? Why dont you email me at sanjubaba@gmail.com. It'll be a lot easier I'm thinking?

My sister and I are going to be studyng Political Science and economics.
Christ College is the university that we go through with our program-we really didn't have that much of a choice :)
What's a PG, by the way :)
What is the campus like at Christs?? Is it green? Do people usually stay near the campus, or doing breaks do they go off to lunch and other things?
What is the weather like during June-November? I hear it rains a ton, but that really wouldn't matter to me!
I know these are a lot of questions-but I can't help it, I'm so excited!! :)
