“Intellectual” has got to be the simplest way to describe Edward Roivas, except that is a pretty big understatement. As a clinical psychologist, he would classify more as a scholar than a fighter, but nevertheless he does not hesitate to take up arms in efforts to defend himself as well as others. In spite of his background in psychiatry, he has also taken an interest in the paranormal. This keen curiosity most likely stemmed from his family’s sordid past that Edward began to delve into his lineage, almost like an ethereal calling reaching out to him.
He is very well spoken, erudite, enjoys reading and is certainly well educated. The library at the Roivas mansion houses a variety of books, which most likely range between clinical documents to information telling the colorful history of his ancestors. Moreover, he takes care with his social graces. In spite of his intelligence, he can be polite and caring rather than intimidating. He is, however, the kind of person that one would not want to cross, as he is also skilled in the use of some weapons. Able to wield a saber as well as having a revolver, a double-barreled shotgun, to something as badass as an elephant gun at his disposal, Edward is not the type to think twice about using them against the forces of darkness and danger. But he is a type of person that would probably kill you in a very polite way without making you feel bad about it.
Although it’s never elaborated on, Edward is a casual drinker. He always keeps a flask on hand, and a swig usually helps calm him down in even the most intense situations. Even while sober Edward has a penchant for keeping his cool; he is probably one of the most level-headed of the chosen to fight the Eternal Darkness. But basically, booze makes everything better. The flask he keeps contains what he calls “liquid courage”, even though we all know that it’s just whiskey or scotch, really, because clearly that’s the most sensible thing to carry around when you’re being chased by zombies.
In his line of work, Edward is naturally familiar in the fields of psychiatry. It was part of his job to read into the studies of famous psychologists, most notably Freud and Jung. Strangely, he is able to accept the strange and unknown, in cases where most people would deem themselves insane. For instance, as much as he tried to disbelieve the appearance of Maximillian’s ghost, he accepted what he saw. He has so much of a sane head on his shoulders that it is extremely difficult to get this man to lose his edge. Pretty much him losing his grip of his own sanity is the equivalent to post-traumatic stress for any normal person.
While he is obviously an expert in his field, Edward never gets bored with learning. He expresses great enthusiasm with delving into his family’s past, in hopes to discover just why he comes from such a long line of nutcases. Never mind the fact that he’s got to be the first of any of them who is legitimately sensible that he’s been able to survive in society for this long (unlike his ancestor, Maximillian, rather than killing all of his servants when they start getting possessed, he makes an effort to actually, you know, protect them from possession in the first place).
Edward plays an active voice over the previous holders of the Tome, as he is the one who narrates their stories. With the exception of Michael Edwards, he holds the knowledge of all the other chosen nine that have made their stand against the Eternal Darkness over the past two millennia. So clearly you would have to be pretty damned well-balanced, because trying to wrap your head around that kind of thing has got to be a headache and a half.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Despite having one at the old mansion he resides in, Edward does not know how the play at the piano. Every now and then he’ll just... hammer at the keys, because he thinks it’s therapeutic or something.
- Supposedly, the mansion was inherited after his father’s death. However, he views the place as “folly more than a mansion”.
- According to Alexandra, Edward has as much of a taste for port as he does for knowledge. He keeps entire barrels full of the stuff in the basement.
- Said to “live our the fridge”, so he does not eat all that much. In fact, he oftentimes forgets to eat and instead spends more energy in his studies and reading.
