They've started the boring machine, which is boring a hole underneath the foundation wall and out to the near edge of the sidewalk. It is a steady rhythmic thumping, five beats per second, that fills the entire house and makes the building subtly vibrate. (Out on the porch, the vibration is not at all subtle.) My earplugs are not doing all that much against it. This is going to go on all day today, and they expect tomorrow, too.
