ALKALINE TRIO? LIKE IN THE BATTERY?...YES SIR

Last night was beyond amazing. It was the light of a shitty few days and completely made up for all the misfortune and crap I have been dealing with lately.

So right after school, Mike and I went straight home, did my chore and headed out to Wal*Mart. I picked up some film and window washer fluid while Mike exchanged a month’s worth of change for 21 dollars. Then we went to the mall to drop off my dress to Aubree, she said she could put some “French maid” sleeves on it for prom. Apparently, I looked like I was going to kill someone, I picked up new tapers because my fimo earrings that I had made the night before had gauged my ears to an eight again, meh oh well. After chattin it up with Sandy, Lauri and Aubree, we left for the highway. Mind you, that if you know how I drive, you might be slightly terrified that I was the one driving to and from Providence, Rhode Island, and both times there was no confusion, just a smooth ride, and even though we hit 495 at 5:15, there was hardly any traffic what-so-ever.

We got to Providence and rode around in circles for a good ten minutes looking for parking that was cheap and accessible. As we were parousing, we saw Geoff and Brandon standing in front of Lupo’s. We park, and this crazy, but most utterly friendly hippie was telling us directions and telling me to take my pocket book. He was so nice. Being the dicks that we are we snuck in line with Brandon and Geoff. Needless to say their companions were Mace, Corey Silva, AND ERIC FRIGGIN PATAMMACHUCK?! What?!? Yes, I was startled, he’s a super cool kid but, what? Okay enough with the shock. As a group we hung around for about twenty minutes talking about beards and pissing in bottles, not my choice of conversation but hey, I’ll go with it.

Seven o’clock hit, and the doors opened. Surprisingly enough I was allowed to bring a camera in. Trodding down to the floor, we had a position right up against the barrier, hardly anybody was there at this time. We talked awhile, and this drunk girl was screaming behind us, and these two other girls were playing patty- cake. It was rather annoying, but you can’t cure the world of ignorance. All of us took turns saving spaces while we used the restroom one by one.

Show starts, first act, Colossal, they were pretty good for the most part. The lead singers facial expressions were kind of throwing me off, but they were atleast mentionable on my list of bands I was proud to see live. The had a trumpet player, how could they have gone wrong? They also floored me with the use of two drummers completely in sync with one another, it blew my mind.

Next act, Mike Park, founder of Asian Man Records, had a solo act followed by a joint act with Colossal. At the beginning of his set the drunk girl was screaming “Mike Park is my babies daddy” and spilling booze every which way. He had a dvd about prejudice, and the music that got him where he is today. It was amazing. After that he played maybe 2 songs, and then he played “I’m in love with a girl named Spike” about Spike from Degrassi, it made me smile. After a few shameless plugs about the Plea for Peace Foundation www.pleaforpeace.com, www.asianmanrecords.com., he played a few songs with Colossal.

Immediately after their set two guys thought they would be awesome, and try to push everyone who had been waiting the whole night out of the way so they could be upfront. And the part that pissed me off the most, was the fact that after I said he wasn’t getting by, he said “PLEA FOR PEACE”, in the most sarcastic tone. Don’t be sarcastic about something people are really dedicated to.

About thirty minutes of guitar techs, and a series of “ONE TWO, CHECK”. Alkaline Trio hit the stage. Oh my, that was the best Trio show I have ever in my life experienced. We were right up front, and Matt Skiba’s guitar string knicked my thumb. He was un-real. Trio put on such an amazing set. I’m going after school to develop Mike and I’s photos at Wal*Mart. But during the set some idiot crowd surfers fell on Mike a few times, and snapped his neck forward, I felt so bad and I was trying so hard to pull them off him.

After the show I ran into Liz Stillman and we talked about work and apartments while I waited for Mike to buy a shirt. The ride home was short, and very direct. A brief stop at Wendy’s, then it was home to watch The Royal Tenenbaums, well I watched it and Mike passed out.

Today has been good, wrote a letter, and tomorrow I’m getting my nails done for prom. Fun stuff, I also started cleaning Mrs. MacLeod’s room extensively.

g-damn announcements.
