Anti-Choicers still anthropomorphizing fertilized eggs.

At Personhood Conference, Anti-Choice Movement Struggles for Direction

She believes the personhood framework can be adapted to battles like abortion, stem cell research, fetal alcohol syndrome, "fetal homicide" (laws that criminalize accidental or intentional death of a fetus), and emergency contraception.

Do I need to utter the B-word again?

Batshit.

And...

But Burton seemed ill-informed about the "lies" of her opposition: "They said, ‘If the Colorado personhood amendment passes birth control will be outlawed. In vitro fertilization will be outlawed.' All these things that weren't true," she said. "The personhood amendment was a definition. What it said was that in the future, when our courts and our legislators are considering laws relating to those kind of things--I mean in Colorado there isn't even a law on birth control so how a definition can affect a law that doesn't exist, I'm not sure."

Consider this.

The birth control pill, at least, does a couple of things.

1. Stops Ovulation. So, there is no egg to fertilize.

2. Makes the uterus inhospitable to the implantation of a fertilized egg, just in case one happens to break through.

You put something into law that defines "fertilized egg" as a person and the rest of the batshit insane anti-choice wingnuts are going to be out there clamoring for an end to the Pill on the off chance that some fertilized eggs are being killed. [Hell, they already are.] Despite the fact that up to 50% [if not more; I've seen medical sources speculate anywhere between 30-75%] of fertilized eggs don't implant anyway, regardless of what the woman's doing.

[And after reading some of comments in that linked article, apparently some people think that ACOG and other medical institutions conspire to trick women into constantly aborting their fetuses... I can't make this shit up.]

Not to mention this entire thing would throw miscarriage into an interesting light. Especially for that "fetal homicide" shit. Was it really a miscarriage? You never can be too sure with these wily women.

Not to mention the entire concept is just fucking wrong to begin with.

Because you're forgetting about something in the whole equation:

The Woman.

Effective in your world, a woman's rights to her own personhood and autonomy end when she is gestating--whether intentionally or not--a fetus.

Fuck that.

She. Comes. First.

Furthermore, my dear batshit anti-choicers, it lies in this: If a Government has the power to force a woman to give birth, it has the power to force a woman to have an abortion as well. Or any number of other things. We're already seeing slivers of this blatant disregard for women's autonomy. See: forced c-section.

I don't want any kind of government that meddles that much in my personal autonomy.

And I'm really not sure why you would either.

But maybe the slut-shaming and woman-to-hearth-and-home-chaining makes up for it?

I'm going to go shoot some super-mutants...

birth control, pro-choice, women's rights, gender equality, reproductive rights, abortion, anti-choicers, equal rights, pregnancy
