This past weekend has been one of the more cultured and hedonistic I have had in quite a long while.
It was also somewhat expensive so I wont be repeating it in a hurry.
It started on Friday with my usual engagement to play go with Sundance ( a physics tutor) and Alex (the accompanist at Adelaide IV) at the Worlds End. I chose the location because they have great Nachos and also I felt that I wouldnt be so distracted by the passing crowds (I get very distracted very easily). They happened to have cheap beers too so I got happily tipsy but managed to play fairly well. Well at least I thought so :). Kirsty joined briefly but quickly got bored and left, which is fair enough really.
Later Ange turned up then James and Adria and finally Bruce and the changing of the guard was complete. We ate a very ordinary meal there (which didnt bother me as I had been drinking pints since 1) before we went to see 2 pics at the mercury, being: Howls Moving Castle (awesome) and Shinobi (Romeo and Juliet meets crouching tiger, hidden dragon but not as good).
Saturday turned out very well indeed as I got a call from a friend from My counselling course who said she had a spare ticket to see Waiting for Godot which I have never seen performed before (but have read and loved). It was fantastic. We were laughing so hard. Existential Angst should always be this hilarious. Then I went home to await Kirsty and her BF to arrive and we watched The Man who Cried which starred Johnny Depp, Kate Blanchettt and Christina Ricci. Unsurprisingly it was very good. The we tried to watch The Snow Queen as realised by Hallmark starring Bridget Fonda. It was bloody awful. I think Hallmark has the touch of mediocrity about it. It was positively painful. I am sure it was a great success back in the USA.
Sunday started with a call by Michelle to join her and her GF at the Greenhills Gallery opening. Georgie picked me up and we saw some amazing art and talked to the artist (fascinating man) over a few glasses of very good red ( I love gallery openings :) ). Then we rushed off to have my fisrt yum cha in over a year. I persuaded them to eat the tripe. They were unimpressed. All the more for me. We all passed on the chicken feet.
Then I joined Ange, Bruce and James again at the Greenaway Gallery for a Zephyr quartet recital which sounded wonderful, before walking back into town to get a lift from georgie again to join up witb Lisa and her circle for a quiz night at the Ed.
Minor problem...there are 2 edinburgh pubs in adelaide so Georgie and I went to the wrong one but finally got to the right place. It turned out to be the gay pub which I havent been to since I was seeing that confused lesbian from my old work. I remember why I dont go there any more. It is a dive. The ventilation sux and it stank of smoke and the drag queens are way past their use by date. and the noise was offensively loud.
But my friends were great and the quiz night was kinda fun.
I got home and collapsed. But hey it was a great weekend in all :).
