Today I had the good fortune of obtaining a lightly used, second-hand bicycle from a couple of my favorite coworkers. It's a little taller than I'd like, even after readjusting the seat, but for the price and quality I'll suck it up and make do. It really is a fabulous machine! It's got more gears and speeds than I know what to do with but is still light enough for me to carry up the stairs to the apartment. (My poor, feeble arms!)
I plan on going out later this evening to look for a lock and a helmet. Yes, yes. I'm awful for taking the risk of riding home THIS ONE TIME, but I felt confident enough on the quiet back roads and residential areas to -not- come across any coppers.
Time it took to get home: 45 minutes, approximately.
There were a few low, steady sloping hills but also a fair amount of downhill coasting. I hopped off the bike to walk it across intersections (of which there are too many for me to care for, so it will undoubtedly be a matter of time before I start cutting back on that habit), and made sure to stick to the bike lanes / roads while avoiding sidewalks. My coworkers will get a kick out of this, for sure. I haven't been this sweaty in ages. I'm hoping tomorrow will be a little easier.
