This song is dedicated to someone from long ago, someone who taught me more in a few short years than I believed possible to learn from anyone, someone who shaped my perception of friendship and love irrevocably, someone who, even now, I look back on and smile.
Thank you. It's been ten years since that first chess game, but I still remember the moves. You will always be my rook, my solid castle, the one piece I can rely on, even if you're not used until the very end. I miss you, old friend. o/` Baby's black balloon makes her fly
I almost fell into that hole in your life
And you're not thinking about tomorrow
'Cause you were the same as me
But on your knees
A thousand other boys could never reach you
How could I have been the one?
I saw the world spin beneath you
And scatter like ice from the spoon
That was your womb
Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someone's prayer?
You know the lies they always told you
And the love you never knew
What's the things they never showed you
That swallowed the light from the sun
Inside your room
Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I'll go on as you get colder
Always someone...
And there's no time left for losing!
Because you're standing, oh, there...
Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
I go on as you get colder
All because I'm
Comin' down the years turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I'll go on to lead you home
All because I'm
All because I'm
And I'll become
What you became to me o/`
Ten years. In a decade, so much can change.
Hell, a lot can change in ten months, ten weeks... ten days.
Change, like choice, is not without consequences.
Charles Kettering - "The world hates change, yet it is the only thing that has brought progress."
