chapter 5 Ch.6
“I think I made the biggest mistake of my life.”
Two days after the ‘incident’ with that Megumi bitch and there were still no flowers. On the third day, three days to his birthday, he finally broke down and spilled his guts to Hitsugi.
“I knew it!”
“What?”
“Hakuei and I made a bet and I just won fifty bucks. It was Ni-ya who was sending the flowers.”
And like a light bulb that turned on in his middle of a pitch black room, Sakito finally realized that Hitsugi was right. Before he had assumed that Ni-ya knew who’d sent them when in reality Ni-ya had been sending them.
Oh gods how could he be so stupid and blind and oblivious and thoughtless and-more words came to mind but it just made him feel worse so he stopped himself there.
“ARG! I’m so stupid!” Sakito lamented, banging his head against the coffee table at the bakery where Hitsugi worked. The kid didn’t like seeing Sakito that so he took a nearby newspaper and put it under Sakito’s forehead to cushion the hits a little.
“On the bright side, Kai will be extremely happy. You know he likes this type of romantic stuff.”
That put a slight smile on Sakito’s face. Taking a deep breath he decided to forget his woes. Taking the focus away from his problems and issues he asked the redhead about himself.
“So what’s up with you and Aki. You two started dating yet?”
“Whaaa---” Hitsugi almost choked on his tea at the completely random
question.
“What did you say?” the redhead tried to demand menacingly but it came out half choked through watery eyes.
“You and Aki. Did he ask you out yet?”
“I heard what you said!” He said exasperated finally able to catch his breath.
“Then why’d you ask me to repeat myself?” Sakito smirked knowing he would win their mind games.
“Oh shut up!” Hitsugi said wiping the table from the half spilt tea. “And for your information, that’s none of your business.”
The words themselves were just funny to hear before Sakito deadpanned, “Are you serious?” before taking a sip of his own tea.
“So, I’m assuming he did and you said yes.” Sakito didn’t assume anything. He knew that was going to be the way things worked out. That and Uruha wouldn’t shut up about it at work even having ‘juicy details’ about a kiss he saw Aki give Hitsugi that supposedly made the redhead blush like a tomato. Not that Sakito listened to Uruha’s gossip, but it was entertaining when work got boring.
“He asked me out but I said no.”
“What? Why?”
“Because it’s never going to work. He’s five years older than me and I’m a busboy and he works at the top music company in the world and….” The redhead sighed dejectedly.
“Wow, you’re optimistic.” Sakito said sarcastically. “Yes, it will work out. And yes you will go on a date with him. Just say yes.” Sakito said not taking his own advice.
“Oh yeah? And what was your response to Ni-ya? You said ‘I’ll think about it’ think about what? He obviously loves you and if by your details on describing how he kissed you-thank you for the mental scarring by the way-you like him too. A lot. Just go talk to him and if worse comes to worse get a restraining order against that bitch.”
“And you’re younger than me?! You’re incredible Hitsu-chan.”
“It’s what I do.” Hitsugi said a little cockily. “I council people as a part time job.”
“Smart ass.” Sakito grumbled, smiling in spite of himself and paid his bill, leaving a generous tip for the young man before going to the flower shop to meet Ni-ya.
He just hoped Ni-ya wanted to hear him out.
