We Are The Champions
I was quoting the lyrics for We Are The Champions to a friend, which entailed looking them up on google first to ensure I didn't get them wrong. Below a search, google has questions "PEOPLE ALSO ASK".
"Does the song We Are The Champions say of the world?" was the top question. I knew it did, but I clicked it out of curiosity. Here's the relevant part of the blurb:
There is no longer any recorded version that has "of the world" as the ending. Even lyric websites no longer show "of the world" as the ending of the song.
I had noticed the change on the end for years, thinking it was just the single edit as opposed to the album version. So first, I went to Spotify to test whether the blurb was correct.
Sure enough, "of the world" is edited off the end.
The version I saw available on Spotify, was a 2011 remaster. The word remaster is an understatement. Whoever is responsible for that totally changed the production to the point it practically sounds like a cover band version. How disappointing.
I wonder if the remaining band members authorized, or sought, the change? If not, I wonder how they feel about it?
