A Time When Women Were Real Women...
A post on a site I frequent led to me to these scans from a 1951 book called On Becoming A Woman by Dr. Harold Shryock. This book describes everything a young woman needs to know about growing up to be a faithful wife and mother, which, as he notes, is the fulfillment of all women's deepest desires. It's chock full of useful advice for dealing with things like puberty. For instance, if a woman finds herself masturbating, this is dangerous because it drains your life force. Therefore, you should seek out a Christian doctor to have your clitoris circumcised. Fun times! It should be noted that although this is an actual guide seriously written to help young women, the good Dr. Shryock was conservative and religious even for the 50s...
