Battle Royale revisited

Nov 04, 2008 03:19

I decided to watch Battle Royale again for the first time in years (I can still remember how impossible it was to even get a hold of Japanese movies back then). The reason I wanted to watch it was because I just finished reading the manga recently and..

It totally changed my whole perspective of the movie. Instead of watching a bunch of randomly numbered kids killing each other, it was like.. Oh, Mimura! Shit, that's Kiriyama! The manga went into much detail about the characters and their bonds, which makes it that much harder seeing them die. The feelings of hopelessness of the situation was more apparent throughout, and it was much sicker!

However the movie was done quite well (besides being legen.. wait for it.. dary xP). Looking at the cast list now, so many of the young actors have made it big since. Anyway, some random 'wah!' moments the second time around..

-Mimura was played by Takashi Tsukamoto!
-The guy who played Sugimura is married to Aoi Miyazaki (I never even realized she was married. Nooooooooo.. there goes my chance T_T Not..)
-To those who haven't read the manga, many of the cast-members in the movie actually resembled their manga counterparts in terms of appearance *sugoi*
-Ai Maeda's (Aki Maeda's sister.. first noticed her in Jotei.. haha) voice was in it! She was Kitano's daughter on the phone.
-the biggest surprise was realizing Kou Shibasaki was the psycho-bitch Mitsuko Soma. Wow. she even out-psychoed Chiaki Kuriyama 0_0
-'Beat' Takeshi Kitano sensei wins! Konoyaro! Bakayaro!

I heard there's going to be a remake *yawn*

Note: I intentionally did not mention BRII because I'm denying that crap was ever made^^

takeshi kitano, aoi miyazaki, shibasaki kou, battle royale, movie
