Manhunt 2.. leaked..

I got my hands on Manhunt 2. What is Manhunt 2? Manhunt 2 is the game from the makers of the Grand Theft Auto series (another conservative favourite) that got banned in many countries before it was even completed for being too violent. Recently they announced that a slightly toned-down, censored version would be released instead, with the date fittingly coinciding with Halloween. Those who wanted it to be banned are still unhappy that the game would ever see the light of day while those who didn't are unhappy that some of the juicy bits will be removed.

Last week the uncut version somehow magically leaked to some warez sites on the net. Of course I couldn't resist and had to find out what all the fuss is about.

In Manhunt 2 you play a deeply disturbed individual (:D) who escapes from a mental institution and is trying to discover about his identity, his past, and the likes. To get from A to B in each stage he has to kill all those (guards, hunters, hobos, gimps, the usual..) who stand in his way. He can use whatever items (syringe, pliers, shards of glass, telephone chord, axe, clubs, plastic bags, etc) he can get a hold of to dispose his opponents. Stealth kills are rewarded with some very gruesome animated sequences. How gruesome? Depending on the weapons and violence level you manage to execute he would hit, cut, stab, amputate, behead, suffocate.. lets just say he never runs out of ideas on how he would get it done. Each stage is dreadful, or pleasingly dreadful depending on how you look at it and there's even a torture chamber in the third stage called Sexual Deviants that is very similar to the one found in The Hostel movie. They really didn't hold back on this one..

I must say that I would feel sick each time I play the game. Not because of content but because of the bad camera angles and movements that would make me feel as if I was on a merry-go-round that is on a ship that's rocking back and forth. IMO the content is sadistic and over-the-top, but isn't something that hasn't already been seen on TV or film time and time again. This certainly isn't for kids but neither are certain TV shows, films, or porn. Some people clearly still view video games as just another type of toy for kids. Oh well.. I think a sick mind isn't going to be more/less twisted simply by playing a video game.. and those who can't tell the difference between reality and make believe really need help in the first place anyway. It's not even a great game. But because of all the attention it's been getting it's going to sell very well during release, even more so to the ones whom the critics wanted to protect it from. Free publicity.. yay!
