I was reading the Hobbit's An Unexpected Journey movie companion last night (it's so awesome!) and came across a photo that revealed something about something that happens in Desolation of Smaug that I have been wondering about re book.
Spoiler cut for those who haven't read the book[Spoilers] You know those big ol' spiders they encounter in Mirkwood? And how Thorin isn't part of that because right before, he's been captured by the Elves and taken to Thranduil and thrown in his dungeon?
There's a picture in the companion of the Dwarves in fighting mode, surrounded by green screen, while they are covered in what looks like cobwebs. And Thorin's there!!
I could not be more pleased about this. Because it's such an iconic scene in the book and to me, as a newly born Thorin-fan, I was sad to realise he wouldn't be there for it. So I was thinking, for the movie, it's not really necessary to NOT have him there, because the others are also captured by the Elves and taken to Thranduil afterwards, so they might as well ALL have the spider encounter and have them taken to Thranduil all at once. So I'm glad about this. If that's what the picture is from of course. But I'd like to think it is :)
