One movie I just couldn’t get excited for was The Dark Knight Rises, which is odd considering Nolan is one of my favourite directors and I’ve loved Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight is probably my favourite movie ever. I think it was the fact that the characters they’ve included did not excite me (Anne Hathaway as Catwoman did not seem like my cup of tea, and trailers so far only emphasised that for me) and I couldn’t get excited for Bane, even less so after the bad buzz with his inaudible dialogue and then there’s apparent new love interest Marion Cotillard. I couldn’t imagine how all these characters could work in one movie and the previous trailer just didn’t get the buzz going for me.
I had to retract that a bit when I watched TDK recently and sensed there were just as many different characters with different plotlines in that one, albeit small ones and was thinking to myself why I was doubting Nolan. And then the MTV Movie Awards happened. Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Christoper Nolan announced the movie and did so marvellously with an excellent clip looking back on how it all began (pardon the pun). Christian choking up over Heath though :’(
I wish I had a video to show you the entire bit, but I can’t seem the find a proper one on YouTube, only videos of tv screens, so it’s just the footage. Just as awesome! I actually thought Hathaway seemed way more awesome in this trailer, as does Bane. And yeah, it finally got me really excited for it :D
