This movie. It is giving me feelings. Lots of them. Under the cut are my extremely rambly thoughts. Obviously: heavy spoiler warning.
It is.. so amazing. So. Amazing. How on earth can a movie that I’ve anticipated so much not disappoint. Joss Whedon. That’s why. And all actors are in top form. No one is just turning up and doing their easy thing. They all put everything in. Just fantastic.
The fun thing was that I remembered pretty much exactly what was going to happen (I wrote happy LOL). Usually I need to watch movies several times for that to happen. That’s how awesome I thought it was and how much attention I paid the first time, as sick as imax made me (never again..).
Tom = Loki. Which is kind of scary, considering how adorable and nice Tom is. Seriously though, Tom in this movie. Insane and so incredibly sad at the same time. I just kept going: Yes Loki! You can do it! You can redeem yourself! Especially with those puppy dog eyes. But then a second later he just shoots his brother into the depths. And this sort of thing happened multiple times. Sad sad sad, but so good. Honestly, he was so good. And I loved the ending. “Can I get that drink now?” You never know with Loki as he’s rather a serpent :p But I did love it. There was that little moment where you thought: He is going to be okay in Asgard. As Tom said in an interview: He has the ability to redeem himself and he hopes he will.
That scene with the Black Widow though. Oh. My. God. Tom was superb. Scarlett was quite good too in it, as she fooled me too. I did think she was a bit stupid for talking to him, but heh, it was all part of the plan XD The direction though: Loki appearing in the mirrored glass behind Natasha. Yikes!!
Loki has swagger though. The bit in Germany? A-ma-zing. Just incredible. Not just Loki’s swagger, but the scene in general. I think Tom did it brilliantly. He’s completely unaware of what humans are all about and the man standing up and the look on his face (which I could see in Imax and not in the normal cinema :O)! Tom Hiddleston, you amazing actor!! He really owns Loki.
I also loved how much more funny he was in this one. Tom really has good comedic timing: “I’m listening!” And the way he poked Tony the second time, it looked so comical :D
I wasn’t too excited for Thor 2 because of all the director crap, but with that ending? I am so excited now :D Stupid I know, but true :D
Okay, enough praise for Tom XD
On to Jeremy. Loved his entrance. "The hawk? He's up in his nest."
I had a sneaky suspicion he was going to be turned because of his lack of appearance in the trailers (there had to be a reason, especially after I heard everyone got equal screen time: why not include him in the trailers then?) and someone on my twitter posted a theory saying she thought Loki was going to do a Hawkeye body swap. Well that didn’t exactly happen, but it was close enough. I must say I was rather a shallow girl in the IMAX theatre, because I noticed going again yesterday that I hardly recognised anything Barton had said the first time LOL I was apparently just staring LOL I completely missed the whole iridium and ‘we need an eyeball’ bit. I was probably just staring at his pretty Tessarect eyes. The way he went demon first though.. Oh. OH!!! *shallow* Thankfully, after he turned back to the good side (I do like a good cold turkey), Renner could really display Barton and his acting skills. Not that he had a lot of that to do, but reading a Hawkeye comic I found Hawkeye being extremely sarcastic, and that came out quite well: “You and I remember Budapest very differently.” XD Plus, he’s got some mean fighting skills and a very pretty, sway-y style that I quite liked.
The bow though. THUD. I *might* have actually stopped breathing the first time he took out the bow (I wanted to write whip LOL It did sound like one *guh*). Funny how it’s in the trailer and they left out the blue eyes, so no one would suspect :p But yeah. I do like a man with a bow and arrow. That quiver. It just gives me feelings. It’s so basic, it requires skill. I don’t know why I like it (fictionally only, let that be clear. I hate that stuff in real life funnily enough), but since I was a kid I liked a bow and arrow. Started with the Disney Robin Hood, with Robin the Fox :D Then Legolas, of course, perhaps my favourite fictional character ever. (thank you Tolkien!) Imagine guys, imagine how I felt when Tony called Barton Legolas. I *died*.
Full of glee: "I got 'm."
I really loved how in the last scene they had Barton point the arrow at Loki’s face (or eyesocket, probably XD). Very fitting, very lovely :D I need a wallpaper of that moment. The Hulk made me laugh in it though: he was eyeing Loki so very fouly with narrowing eyes, it was so funny XD
I do need a prequel though. With Black Widow, Hawkeye and Coulson. I NEEDZ IT!!! Jeremy said if the fans wanted one they might make one. Well I WANT ONE!!!! There were so many hints to his background in the comic I read, I NEED more. I just do. And Jeremy also said him and Joss had extensive convos on who Hawkeye is and it was a shame they couldn’t put any of it in the film. Jeremy even felt he was hardly in it anyway. I see where he’s coming from. He doesn’t have too many lines, let’s put it that way. The thing about the prequel movie is though, I think especially the Hulk/Bruce is so awesome and loveable, that the fan response will be on that and less on Widow and Hawkeye as the ones needing their own film. Which I understand, but dammit, I want it!!! I’m afraid to express it on twitter though, because I know some people know someone will die and asking for a prequel does kind of hint at stuff and I don’t want to do that.
Anyway, Renner didn’t disappoint, even though he pretty much only had action stuff to do. The shallow girl in me approves and I’ll watch the Hurt Locker and Mission Impossible again for his acting skills :p I do love Hawkeye though. He is extremely funny and it’s a shame that couldn’t come out too much. But I don’t hold that against anyone.
Son of Coul :’( Joss Whedon, you bastard! You genius, but you’re also a bastard! It was a good death though. The scene was perfect. Not meaningless, but very meaningful and the way they had people mourn was tremendous. Joss didn’t just pass it by as collateral damage, but really a moment they would all just stand still at. Beautifully done. But it’s the Son of Coul :( I did cry. Twice. Not bawling, but a tear. BECAUSE IT’S COULSON!!! And Clark Gregg! It just breaks my heart to know there will be no more Son of Coul in any movies anymore and no more Clark Gregg doing press :( That’s why I also need that prequel! Clark is such a fanboy himself, I will miss that :( Coulson and Cap though. My heart! Bless him!
Mark Ruffalo. Oh Mark Ruffalo. You did proper ruffalise me at the Graham Norton Show and with your performance as Bruce AND the Hulk you only increased my love for you. What a sweetheart. Oh my gosh. And he really gave the Hulk heart. Just a wonderful performance.
"Hulk?"
*growl*
"Smash!"
*grin*
The faces the Hulk pulled! Wonderful! And of course he had the two funniest bits with BAM Thor out and BAM BAM BAM Loki out XD Only the Hulk can punch two demi-gods and walk away from it XD The laughs though. OMG!! Laughing so hard :D The audience in the IMAX was laughing (I think.. the sound was quite loud), but the audience last night were roaring. Roaring! So funny :D They were REALLY enjoying the movie. Going OH IT’S CAP!! when Fury makes that ‘soldier’ remark. THOOOOOR! IRON MAN!! OMG!!! XD Good audience :D And quiet in the right places too. That doesn’t often happen. We had the early showing and when we got out, there was a queue all the way through the hall, down the stairs, outside :O The only two movies showing after were Avengers and Battleship. Really impressed, have never seen that in that cinema. Incredible! It makes me happy that the movie seems to be doing well here too.
Second time around I was really rather impressed with the intensity with which RDJ was acting. He was really rather good in this one. Top notch performance. Really impressed. I have a rather difficult relationship with Iron Man, as I hate his smugness and arrogance, yet can forgive him for it at the same time, also because he’s rather funny. He is not my favourite though and the movies aren’t either, but I quite like his relationship with Pepper, as it seems it makes him a bit less arrogant. A bit :p But I’m a minority and I know that and dad (who usually gets very annoyed with arrogant, smug men) loves him and said so during the break (yeah our cinema does breaks.. they for a change timed it right though), and I really realised RDJ was doing an amazing job in this film. So intense. He really did. And the bit in the end with Jarvis (PAUL I LOVE YOU) phoning Pepper and her not picking up: brilliant.
His suit by the way. It looked so awesome. So. Awesome.
The Chris's. Cap. Oh Cap. Chris is perfect as Cap. So nice, but feels so out of place. I don’t really know what else to say on him, as he was just Cap doing his Steve-y business. In a very wonderful way. <3 Same for Thor. Chris was wonderful and you could really feel his pain because his brother is causing all of this.
Scarlett’s moves impress me. Her fighting is so amazing. What a training she must have done. Lots of icebaths I can imagine. Her fight with Hawkeye in particular was kick ass and the way she dealt with the Hulk was amazing. The look in his eye by the way. Oh my :(
I was glad to see that Sam Jackson didn’t annoy me as much as Nick Fury as I was afraid he would. He was actually quite awesome. “It’s a stupid ass plan!” Go Nick!
Loved Cobie as Hill. I said before, I’m not particularly a Robin fan on HIMYM and saw a very strangely boring interview with Cobie a year ago, so she didn’t really grow on me. Until the Avengers press stuff. She was so wonderful! And Maria kicked ass!!! She was awesome in the chase with Barton, Selvig and Loki :D Shame the rest of the movie she pretty much just gave out orders, but I think she has great potential :D
I loved the epic friendships in this movie. This script, the dialogue. So good. Joss did an amazing job at making them a team, not forgetting that in fact these people should indeed be at each other's throats and that it would take something really serious to forge a team out of them. Well done, Joss. Well done.
The special effects. So good. So. Good. Especially the first scene was a-ma-zing in IMAX. The stairs were really loose and it was just amazing. And to see Loki in it just made me all giddy and happy :D Is it strange if I say that I felt Loki stole the movie? I know there’s a lot of people saying Ruffalo did, and I get why they say that, but for me Tom stole every scene he was in. His fights with Thor were EPIC!!!
I just loved the infiltration scene on the helicarrier. Just awesome. They way Loki divided them and then the arrow and BOOM.
Of course there wasn’t much backstory to the Chitauri and yes there were just that: Loki’s Army, but I don’t give a toss. It didn’t ruin anything for me at all. Still can’t believe it has gone beyond my wildest expectations.
In Joss we trust.
“Don’t talk about him like that. He's my brother.”
“He killed 80 people in 2 days.”
“He's adopted.”
“Can you give me a lift?”
“Sure can, Legolas.”
<3
Next viewing: hopefully on my birthday.
