Jewelry store recommendations?

I don't have much need to buy jewelry except on a random whim here and there, but the time has come where I need a nice ring, and I am not sure where to look. I am interested in places that may have vintage, interesting, different, artsy, or original pieces, and that will include a gemstone of some sort (not diamonds, but also not glass...something in between, yeah?). I am open to used rings, but pawn shops feel sort of wrong for our purposes. Price, unfortunately matters. Under $200, well under if possible.

Any ideas, neighbors? Are you an affordable jewelry maven? DO you know an awesome local ring designer? I'm pretty open to hearing about your ideas as I can't get past googling adjectives that are not really getting me anywhere.
